Interesting article about scamming the immigrants. In this scam, both Harpo and Liberals are involved. OAS is funded by taxpayer dollars but it is still denied to us on most flimsy grounds.
I recall that at the Citizenship ceremony , i was advised to keep my original landing papers and warned that without these papers, I would not be paid pension. That time I did not appreciate implications. Strange that government cannot substantiate 10 year stay in Canada though they have or should have records to substantiate claim.
I would appreciate any posts by senior CDs regarding OAS issues, especially if someone had lost original landing papers.

“An applicant may be asked to provide documents to substantiate the departures from and entries into Canada in order to validate residence in Canada,” Maisonneuve said in an email.
John Crisp, of Fenelon Falls, northwest of Peterborough, feels immigrants are being unfairly penalized. His wife, Georgette, who arrived from Holland in 1960, has been denied OAS for failing to provide a copy of her landing papers.
Gardner said a staff member at Service Canada had initially quietly advised her to omit revealing in her application the travels she made through the years, warning that it would complicate her application.

As a conclusion - prepare/plan your own pension & do not depend on the Govt to take care of you. Present day retirees are already feeling it.. but its too late for them to prepare. For others, its never too late to start.....
"One need not have to have money to start planning; its the lack of planning which mostly results in lack of money"

Are you there?
Why not Govt. store the Landing document electronically, demand just the acceptable ID to fetch it and verify. There could be a supplemental Govt secret code assigned to you which could help referring not just this Landing paper but few other important documents.
Its hard to hold on to such faded document.
Anyhow, once kids are grown, life hits a 180 degree.

The weak died on the way,
Only the strong arrived.

If landing document is lost then you can always get a true copy of it from immigration dept. One copy of the landing document is always kept by the immigration officer at the time you first land in Canada. That copy is used to issue a true copy in case you lose it or your copy is faded. I don't see any problem if original is lost. I don't know if you have to keep all your travel details forever.
Secondly it is better not to rely on OAS. You never know what rules will change by the time you retire. So build your own savings and stay healthy now to cut down you medical expenses in future.
