I am a Canadian PR current working in the US on H1 visa. My company has an office in Toronto. Since my US Green Card processing is going no where after 4 plus years of applying and because of current retrogression I am planning to move to Canada next year. I ahve 2 possible choices.
1) Become an employee of my company's Canadian office and get paid in CAD $.
2) Continue to stay on US payroll get paid in US $ and work on US projects from the Toronto office.
My reservations with option 1 is that I may have to take a slight cut in pay and also dont think company will continue sponsorship of US Green Card.
Reservations with 2 is that I would still end up paying US Social Security, and not pay in to be eligible for the Canadian Pension plan, RSP etc.
Can someone please tell me what are my other pitfalls with option 2. As far as I know for Canadian citizenship you need to only stay in Canada 3 yrs doesnt matter if you are getting paid in Canada o not. Also how can we handle taxes.
Can someone refer a competant cross bordr tax adviso in the GTA who can be refered for such matters.
Please advice.
