I noticed people are travelling with OCI card (for kids) without renewing for new passport.

Did anyone travel to India without endorsing new passport number on PIO card?

I had my kids new passport # endorsed in the PIO card. Very easy and same day process compared to getting OCI transferred to new passport. Best part is that I did not have to go to VFS for that!!

Airlines are required to check all travel documents and flyers' eligibility to enter the destination country. If passenger does not meet requirements and airlines allow them to fly, the destination country will fine them a chunk of money plus make the airlines responsible to take the passenger back to the origin country at the airlines' expense.

That is the problem. The passenger should bear the cost if he travels with missing or invalid document.
Do you think that airlines can verify that visa stamped is legitimate or not?
I believe that there are some countries which allow to get visa at the port of entry.

I my view visa verification should be done either properly and airlines must know rules and regulations of visa issued by each country (As one poster said that some airlines do not allow you to travel with visa on your old passport and they don't know what OCI is)

Greetings from Hong Kong !!!

Airlines can and do verify requirements on a regular basis. As just one example, Delta uses the following link -

http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp

The information contained in the database is provided by the country. I can say that because I have seen (again just one example) US requirements constantly being updated and any other advisories that go into effect in the future is posted as a hyperlink within the database.

As far as India goes, this is the info found in the sub-link under OCI:

-------------------
Additional Information:
- Holders of the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) registration
certificate (booklet) are issued with a U type visa. It is
not required to carry the OCI booklet. A "U" visa cancels
any other type of visa issued by India. If the passport is
renewed, the OCI "U" type visa issued in the old passport
remains valid; it is required to hold both passports.
------------------------

Wrong info - says not required to carry OCI booklet
Incomplete info - does not specify age requirements for new stamp in new passport.

The country is equally responsible to provide clear information to the airlines.

If the country allows visa on arrival, it is mentioned in the above link. If you need an example, check US citizenship and UAE as the destination country.

Whether the stamped visa is legitimate or not, I guess that's a broader question. I am sure there are more than few fake passport and visa holders traveling around the globe successfully.

BTW Hong Kong allows visa free travel fro Cdns upto 90 days and for Indian citizens for up to 14 days. Info from the above database. I checked before travel.

Going to bed. It's 1.11 am

@ dimple2001: Do all airlines use that database to find out visa requirements?
