Hi,
My husband and I are planning to move from Alberta to Vancouver in Nov-Dec'12.
I would really appreciate if the following questions are answered by members already living in the Vancouver area.
1. We have started the job search, nothing finalized yet. However, we will move and continue the search if necessary. We are searching for jobs in the Greater Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby mostly. So, what areas (neighbourhoods and communities) would be a good place to rent for apt. considering we don't know the place of employment yet.
2. Budget for rent in a 1 bedroom apt is around $1000 to $1500 per month. Is this reasonable to get a good condition apt with laundry in suite, parking and incl utilities.
3. What are the popular websites to search for apt. rentals?
Thank you!
PS : I hope someone helps, I did check out all the previous threads reg this topic, but most of them are 5-6 yrs old.
I guess you mean GVRD (Greater Vancouver) not GTA (which is Greater Toronto Area). You can easily get the 1 bedroom apartment within your budget but typically laundry will be shared and rent won't include hydro (Condos typically will have insuite laundry).
You can search craiglist and also search google for direct listing by apartment buildings. Some of the buildings does have their own website.
Are you going to drive? If yes then it does not matter much where you live (as you still don't know where you are going to work) but if you will be dependent on transit then try to live close to skytrain station.
Burnaby will be good choice as it it is in the middle of GVRD.
Few links you can review -

Hope this helps.
Hi Ash 20,
Thanks for your reply. We will use public transport. I like Burnaby option as its location is central. I never thought of that. When you go through Gateway property management, do you have to pay them a finder's fee or like a monthly fee?
You don't have to go through Gateway Management. Gateway manage many apartment buildings here therefore I gave you their link. You can search individual buildings too from their website (take name of the building from Gateway website and google it). Anyhow Gateway should not charge you anything as they are not going to find you apartment (they are property management company as far as I know).
