An investigation found that, in the five years since the couple had become Canadian permanent residents, they had only spent about a month in Canada. Each was charged with two counts of “making misrepresentations to maintain permanent resident status.”

Still I have question ..... Why canadian govt. dont stamp or enter exit entry in their system . I surprize how govt. calculate no of days we stay in canada ? Waht is the reason to not to stamp or keep exit record of person ?

Why do they need to stamp? All passenger records are maintained electronically these days
And as far land crossings, information the U.S. Customs and Border Protection already shares the entry information with Canada Border Services agency
If they resort to stamping then frequent business travelers will probably need a 100 or 200 page passport
