Hi all,

The procedure for POAs seem to have changed. Here's the relevant extract from CGI's website

Quote
Power of Attorney/other civil documents:
The Power of Attorney (POA) or other civil documents have to be submitted to the Consulate in original along with a photocopy of a recent photograph of the applicant and two witnesses. The applicant is required to affix the photograph, at the end of the subject matter on the documents to be attested, followed by specimen signature below the photograph and signatures, with name and address of two witnesses. Please ensure that the applicant signs on the same page as the main content of the document. The applicant is required to come in person and sign in the presence of the Consular Officer at the counter. The notarized POA is required to be authenticated by the Ministry of Government Services, Ontario Government (address: 700 University Ave., 6th Floor, Toronto) or the concerned Provincial authorities before submitting it to the Consulate.

Do I -
1. get the PoA notarised by a Toronto lawyer, certified by MGS and then signed by CGI

or

2. carry unsigned PoA to CGI for signing? Do two witnesses need to travel to CGI alongwith me?

What on earth is meant by a "photocopy of a recent photograph of the applicant and two witnesses"?

Could some one who recently had a PoA attested at CGI, please advise me?

Regards

My thinking is that "original along with a photocopy of a recent photograph of the applicant and two witnesses"
should actually read as
"original along with a photocopy, a recent photograph of the applicant and two witnesses"
but CGIs around the world work in mysterious ways, so better call them and make sure.

The literal meaning of the sentence is

Take A4 photocopy of your 'original' photograph and while you are doing so two witness should watch the procedure . LoL. :D and take those two guys to 6th floor in university avenue along with photocopy of yourself !
Rightly said kimat, CGI works and makes other to work in mysterious way.

I think in the sentence if you replace word 'photograph' with 'passport' it will start to make sense. The learned author wanted to convey that bring in photocopy of pp and two people. next sentence says few words abt photograph.

all the best for POA. I hope it is still admissible in India !

Rant begins - no value add post --

I tried calling the CGI - I was put on hold for a long time and then the phone was disconnected.

Why do these twits need two witnesses along with copy of identification? What the **** are we paying them consular fees for?

Man, the CGI really sucks big-time!!!!

Rant ends ---

Thanks guys for interpreting desi bureaucratese. Will post procedure/status when done.
