Fido.
Thank you so much for the info which as Fido mentioned was very detailed and am sure will be helpful to others as well. I am aware of the subsidized dental clinics but they are mostly for those who are homeless, on social assistance, kids or older people. Many of these are also neighborhood specific- downtown. Since none of the criteria apply to me I may not be able to go to any of the subsidized clinics. I will be going to a dentist tomorrow and will update info about my experience and the charges. Hope it might be of assistance to others.

This is the latest update on my experience with the dentists in reference to my dental prob. Please be very very careful and please do not take the word of the dentists. There is assistance available depending on the probs that u might have. The dentist I met (by reference) immediately started cleaning my teeth and gums, despite the problem that I had, WITHOUT EVEN ALLOWING ME TO TALK OR DISCUSS THE SAME WITH HIM!! Later on scare tactics was used by him and my personal contact info was passed on to a dental insurance company. I was referred to another senior specialist who clearly said that I had to undergo an operation asap and that my condition was not covered by OHIP!! I spoke over the phone to yet another dentist and asked her opinion. She tried to wriggle out of meeting me or giving me an appointment... more on that later. Something did not seem right to me, so I called up Mt Sinai hospital and fixed an appointment( which I had to pay for) but the doctor there mentioned in polite terms that it was unethical for any dentist even to do any cleaning if there is any infection in the mouth, which I was subjected to. I had a scan and will be going for surgery now, which is covered by OHIP ( unlike what I was informed by 6 dentists that I spoke to!)
