1) Your kid, when it is born in Canada,will get a BIRTH CERTIFICATE, given to him/her. It will be a Canadian Birth certificate. Anyone born in Canada is a CANADIAN by BIRTH. Will also get a Canadian Passport, if applied and paid for the same. More on it here under this....

2) The Indian Government says... Any foreigner will have to register with the regional Police after SIX Months of stay there, if they are overstaying. So, the basic period is SIX Months. Then register and stay there paying for the stay if they so demand. It is painful, but that is their requirements. (I don't think they demand any money for now.)

3) Please keep a record of places that you both stayed here in Canada. Your TRP temporary resident permit details etc., with pictures and photocopies of the same for the KID'S usage in the FUTURE. He/She does not know anything about them now or later. But you are the one that NEED to provide him/her with these documents. The need arises when they reach trhe age of MAJORITY and at that time they can ditch the Indian Citizenship or ditch the CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP. They will have a widow of opportunity of ONE Year or so at that time. SIXTEEN RINGS A BELL FOR INDIA. Please confirm the same from the Indian websites.

Keep the hospital records, such as the Doctor who delivered the baby. The nurses that assisted them. Bills, date and time etc.,

Birth Certificate is a Provincial Process. The hospital staff will provide you with the forms. Or go to the Internet for the same. The cost will be under $60..??!!

PASSPORT, you can get the same with a set of pictures, finger prints etc., from the hospital cost about $100. In an emergency, within 72 hours, with travel documents. My suggestion to both of you ... Please do not travel for an year. Get all of the benefits and immunity shots prior to the travels.

For OCI and PIO one of the Parents has to be a foreigner. Other one could be an NRI. You can make that decision when you hit that gate.

Who wants to travel back to India... Not me.. So, hang in there as long as you can. WORK here in Canada. If your ties to India are so strong, then breaking them will become painful, so make as many trips as possible and as frequently as possible. Keep the airlines in business. If you enjoy working here, then, decide upon it. Otherwise, make up your mind as EARLY as you can and then find a suitable employment there first and then get the hell out of here. But the kid will need all of the information, so hang on to all of the pertinent details for the kid/s.
