I saw some clarity in Cox and Kings of USA (Similar to the BLS of Canada).

They have said that outsiders will have to provide for their permanent address in the country that they are living in and also to pay for the postal charges.

There is no clarity in GCI Toronto.

Does anyone know for how long the PIO is valid (if not changed). His current age is 8.

Last year, with much fanfare amid claps from Indian diaspora and claims of simplifying things, it was announced by Govt that PIO would be lifelong now with no requirement of registration and later they made it "deemed to be OCI".

See http://boi.gov.in/content/person-indian-origin-pio

I don't know how suddenly this mandatory conversion thing popped up. Why are they trying to confuse the diaspora with this "OCI in lieu of PIO" thing?

Hope the diaspora can get their message and frustration this is causing across to Modi ji.

I am in process to get new OCI stamp in New Canadian passport for my child.

question:

is CGI going to issue new OCI booklet and new sticker in new Canadian passport or not?

BLS website shows under OCI Misc. service that charges is $28.00 + BLS service charges....that means I have to make a draft for $28.00 correct me if I am wrong?

http://www.blsindia-canada.com/ocihome.php

does anyone in forum did it before?

regards

yes CGI will issue new OCI booklet in which your passport # must be endorsed. Regarding u sticker there is latest circular to get rid of this U visa sticker on the foreign passport but if they have those stickers unused then u might find one pasted on your passport. But once they r finished with that stock, there will b no U visa sticker on foreign passport.
Chech this : http://indiacgny.org/pdf/MHA_Circular_U.pdf

let me know when u receive your OCI.

The process is similar to applying for an OCI card. This is not good news.

So, according to the link you provided with:

"This is to inform that vide Gazette Notification No.26011/01/2014IC.I dated 09.01.2015, all PIO cards issued till 09.01.2015 are deemed to be OCI card."

What is the need of applying OCI in lieu of PIO card then? What would happen to the valid until date on the PIO card? Are they considering it lifelong even if the PIO card says it's valid until, e.g. 2030?
