The current Ontario Premier - Kathleen Wynne - has been an advocate of changing Ontario's education curriculum. As the Education Minister in the previous Dalton McGuinty government, she wanted to teach kindergarten kids (4 year olds) about transsexuals (they were going to be taught that gender is not male and female; it includes transsexuals, transgendered, etc), and 7 years olds about masturbation. She made an attempt to introduce these changes as Education Minister in 2010, but Dalton McGuinty shelved the changes because of parents negative reactions. When Kathleen Wynne - who is a lesbian activist - became Premier earlier this year, she said that she would reintroduce these curriculum changes; presumably whenever things settle down a little bit politically.
Shortly after she became Premier, gay and lesbian activists became emboldened. A gay teacher in Toronto circulated a pamphlet to 11 year old students titled "So you want to F***?" The pamphlet provided tips on casual gay sex and depicted 2 men engaged in it. Someone went on to the Toronto District School Board's website and attached a link to a 'resource' that advocates kids masturbating with vegetables to 'blow off steam'. Recently, we have heard that Kathleen Wynne's education advisor has been under investigation for the past 1 year for MAKING and trading child pornography. He has now been charged by the police.
I believe that Kathleen Wynne and the lobby that supports her are trying to make the gay, lesbian and 'alternate' lifestyles acceptable to the general public by introducing them to kids at an early age and making them seem 'cool' in school.
I live in one of the GTA ridings that will be having a by-election in August and find it difficult to vote for a Liberal knowing this.
Do other desis feel the same way? Would you be willing to vote for a Lesbian Premier who wants to introduce kids to her lifestyle? Especially appreciate comments from desis living in one of the GTA ridings in Etobicoke or Scarborough that will be having by-elections next month.
PS: some of the language in the above post might seem to be extreme to desi feelings. However, we should be aware that our kids (as young as 4 years old) are likely going to be exposed to similar or the same language in schools.
Ain't nothin extreme with your language. It's quite normal, in fact, most dailies here can get pretty explicit by desi standards.
If the current premier benefits the province as a whole, I would surely support her, orientation notwithstanding. Wouldn't care if its gay, lesbian, bisexual or straight.
Those 'alternate' lifestyles you talk about are quite normal in most metropolitan cities. All the more here in the GTA, given its diversity.
With the current environment and information today, kids will be exposed to this anyway (and at a younger age)- with or without Kathleen Wynne.

Problem is, you can run but you can't hide. Realistically, with what's going on all around, I don't think one has a choice in the first place - no matter what attitude you adopt. What makes you think the 11 year old wont already know about gay sex, regardless of whether an influencing authority like a teacher hands out such material or not? Whether you have a lesbian activist at the helm or not, shit's gonna happen anyway. If any politician benefits a city, province, or country as a whole, my vote's for him, her or it.
