Text from TOI.
Salim Ansari, 27, who it seems was involved in all the assaults, has said that they made their first attack in March when they saw a woman walking by the tracks late in the evening. "The group, posing as policemen, threatened her and forced her inside mill where they raped her. Within a few days, they targeted another woman crossing the tracks. With these two assaults going unreported, they were emboldened. They often lurked in the mills in the evenings and lay traps for unsuspecting women," added the officer.
Police said the modus operandi was almost the same - whoever spotted a potential target would pose as a policeman/CID officer and under the pretext of inquiry take them deeper into the ruined mill. On the side, they would have alerted their other friends. If a man was accompanying their target, they would thrash him and tie him up.
I couldn't control my emotion and anger while reading this news.
If I have to point something, I would point to the society which thrashes women who have been assaulted, who have been molested. Its been quite long since I had been pointing out this habit as the prime reason that enable the criminals attack the innocents.
Then the next most important culprit is our judicial system.
Need a specialized, fast track courts to investigate similar crime for the sake of the citizens, parents, husbands, sons. Sentencing has to be the same as Saudi, public execution. The sword hitting the neck will send the chill up to the spine.
These criminals wouldn't realize what they are doing unless they see such public executions. The term in Jail wouldn't deter them.
Many nations have switched from relying solely on manufacturing / export oriented economy to tourism. One of the major requirement for tourism is safety. If the country can not provide safety, it doesn't stand a chance and eventually its business would also derail as the business visitors (many are women, some men like to take their family with the business trips) would shun the visit eventually compromising the business.
I am sick and tired of persecutions of innocents and still the criminals go largely unpunished. I just feel sad for those many innocents who couldn't develop the guts to report and get harassed repeatedly.
Shame!!!!

We have human rights activists coming on TV and declaring the scriminals "they are children, they must be reformed". We do not know who are more dangerous, whether these criminals or their sympathizers posing as human rights protectors.
Their general argument is "will giving the severest punishment ensure that no such crimes will take place"?. If the perpetrators are let-off with a religious sermon, will that ensure? We can then abolish courts, punishment etc.
We suspect that the over ground human rights activists are taking money from undrground mafia and terrorists to stall the proceedings all the time

Who is responsible to provide safe society? The so called law-makers are least worried about these crimes because they/their families are insulated. They don’t see the people as human – they see them as vote banks. When it comes to their family members, they go beyond the morality and don’t hesitate to release the terrorists. When they see a potential negative impact, keep their eyes closed to let law takes its own course (slow and slackly) – see this video to know how insensitive our political parties have become - http://youtu.be/uGVrHBtv7os.
At the same time, when it comes to disqualify the serious convicted criminal to continue as MP or MLA, they join hands above and beyond the party line to keep them in assemblies and parliament. Here I am talking about ‘seriously convicted criminals’ and not ‘accused’. What a joke they are making of democracy. There is no accountability of politicians. I remember the current PM said that he will bring the stashed foreign money in 100 days at the time of forming the government. Can he be accountable for not fulfilling his promise? Talked to any person in India, he/she will be least interested about it. Even the general public has become insensitive and they don’t see any value in it. They don’t want to change the rotten system so they deserve to live in that environment. Sorry if I am getting too harsh but it pinches me to see the present situation of my motherland and I feel helpless so venting out.
Unless the general public won’t get aware of their rights and duties, no change will happen. I can feel a declining trend in all fields in the last decade so I don’t see any light.

Wonder why such things don't happen here ... Law enforcement ...
Law enforcement is absent in India and it emboldens the criminals ..

Fido.
Its not only about Law enforcement but also about weak laws .
Even if the culprits are sentenced , punishment is next to none .
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Growing Old Is Mandatory ..Growing UP is Optional
Right, one of the major point.
The punishment should send a chill to the bones. The media has to do its best to spread the fear which media / govt usually do at their best.

I feel laws here are also not that punitive ... so as to run a chill through some one s spine but law enforcement is strong & stringent ... which makes you think 10 times before you commit a crime.
In India , since Police are corrupt , under staffed , not interested in doing their job , criminals know that even if they commit crime its not going to be reported .... and even if it is , Police will do nothing ... which emboldens them ....
Police do not take crime seriously in India ... if you go to lodge a report they will want some bribe for it ... Work ethics are missing ..
Indian Policing was originated by Britishers who wished to subdue the Indian populace and subjugate them ... Unfortunately that s the legacy taken over by the Indian Police System ...
