All,
Thanks for the suggestions.
We already got a mattress for a great deal from Bay - Sealy queen size with box for 520. Not planning to get headboard now. Only need sofa, dining set and tv. We are not crazy about electronics so any decent tv model would do, with small living rooms 32" would be more than good. Will explore in Kennedy road for the furnitures this weekend and also sears.
Visited early years center today. Small place with some toys. Daughter enjoyed for more than an hour. They had a rhyme session for 20 minutes.
Don't know if it's only Toronto or Scarborough, I find only Chinese everywhere. Almost all were Chinese at the center with white kids, will have to enquire with them for daycare.

Early centres will atleast help me to kill time, don't know if someone looks after kids in the apartment.
Some groceries are ok in Sobeys, planning to go to iqbal this weekend. How is it?
Do yourself a big favor, stop treating yourself as a garbage digger. The more you think this way, the more likely you end up that way. You did not come to Canada to become a trash collector. The items you are looking for are one time deal, you don’t buy them every day. Treat it as an investment and go for a reasonably good one. You will certainly enjoy them for a reasonably long time.
If you want to succeed here, get away from this victim mentality, never look for ways to abuse the system, cheap stuff etc. These may help in the short run but makes you part of it and you may end up that way.

Fido.
Try mysleepfurniture dot com ...There are a couple of furniture threads on CD itself ...
You get good deals on Kijiji ... if you are persistent ... try looking for solid wood items ....learn more about hard / soft wood as well .... if you get a $3K worth of a bedroom set in $1K provided it is very good condition ...I don't see any harm ... in fact it makes sense to buy used first and then gradually replace them with new on-deal items ..
Expensive does not necessarily mean better .

Rubbish at its best !!!
You take care of the pennies , pounds will take care of themselves !!
Shopping at Harrods or Renfrew Holt does not make you a millionaire .. You are sadly mistaken if you think that way .....
As much as searching for value for money items does not make one a garbage digger ..... your post was grossly incorrect at the first place .
Earning money is one thing and spending it wisely another .... As much as increase of sales is one part of the equation and lowering of costs another ..The balance is known as profit in case you did not know ....

GKT,
I also would agree with Fido. Canada is not a country paved with Gold. EVen here people have to struggle.
Lalitha has already indicated that only one person in their house hold is working and that she want to spend wisely. Hence the advice given.
As Fido said, first start with second hand basics. Then replace with new items and throw the old ones to trash or sell to new immigrants through Kijiji.
As a new immigrant, the following is very essential.
1. Dining table with chairs. Will convert into a work table also.
2. Lap top with good internet connection.
3. A PCS (print copy scan) printer.
4. Nearest food bank / IKEA
5. Cellphone for hubby and wife.
6. Tv on a TV stand. Video / VCD/DVD player.
7. A standby baby sitter who can baby site for a few hours when needed.
People like GK Taurus are a plauge to CD (sorry for the harsh words) but they will try to mislead CD's to spend more and lead a good life where as if you see them, they will be misers in real life, using food bank and exploiting people.
A good story is that of Chandresh who did not want to change his name to Charles and stay here in Canada. He said that he is taking a flight out the coming week, but he is still in Canada. As Iknow his story, I know his lie. What if people actually thought that Canadresh lefy Canada, since cananda was not good.
Always, we need to know the person's character before we belive them.
Peace

Lalitha,
Always spend money wisely. That was the mistake that I did which led me to run out of Canada.
Also buy your own house, as soon as you can and start renting the basement. That is the best investment in Canada. If you are not able to buy your own house after 1 or 2 years in Canada, Canada is not the right place for you. I found that out after 9 years in Canada and by that time, my life was wasted.
During my time in Canada, I have seen a lot of good stuff in the Garbage. You can use that after giving a good dettol clean. Also as said before, Garage sale or moving sale will be very good to buy cheap and durable stuff.
You should seriously think of visiting food banks (as sobey's is costly) to save weekly food money and spend it on baby sitting.
Central toronto area and Scarbrough has been over taken by the chinese. Just visit Univ. of Toronto. 99% of the students will be chinese. Even now Mississauga and Brampton have a lot of chinese. Due to one child policy / HK real eastate prices, many chinese come here for a happy life. You can't avoid that. But they are good people. The old women will not know a word of English. That is the sad part.
Also I would deal with a chinese than a desi. Chinese also can sell at better bargains and their margin will be low. Our desi's are greedy people and will always look to cheat a fellow desi.
Peace by Murali
