I am coming to toronto from India. Is there any interview by immigration officer after presenting passport and landing papers?
Is there any thing specific to remember?
Do I have to produce hard cash as proof of funds right at immigration.
Can I apply for PR card right there at immigration>?

Hi,
I landed 3 weeks back, did not have any interview at all. Just asked me how much funds i had and how much cash right now. I had taken proof of bank for the funds i had and they asked me to show them, but never bothered to calculate them as i had 3 bank accounts.
Even my family will join me later so they should have their paper work, and not me. I dont know if they again ask them about funds because they will already enter into computer how much funds you have told them. So dont know about that.
You need to make a list of things you have with you in the luggage and make a copy as well for customs, they may or may not check the luggage but they will tell you to open your carry bag.
You can apply for PR card at the immigration as they will ask for your address here. You could fill it up right there.
I hope this helps.

Everybody carries their own landing papers, visa, passport, etc.

For proof of funds, you have various options of bringing it in(cash, draft, travelers cheques) and embassy usually gives a letter that accompanies the passport that explains everything. Usually officers ask verbally about the funds you are carrying and enter that amount somewhere and sometimes in landing paper also.

You do not have to apply for PR card. It is automatic process.

You have apply for everything else, SIN, health card, etc.

If you have Indian driving license, carry it too.

Principal Applicant will require to carry the settelment funds and not the depandents, I landed in May 2004 , had a smooth landing experience. Immigration officer just filled the forms and asked for common questions like how many dependants I have, what will be my address in Canada for sending the PR card and how much money I'm carrying (I was not asked to show it). After that customs asked for the goods I'm bringing now and good to follow (if any), make two copies of each list and get it stamped from the customs. Then I was given informtion packs about health card, SIN etc and I came out of the Airport with a piece of paper called confirmation of permanent residence . I got my SIN card in three weks, G-1 driving license in two weeks and PR card in 5 weeks.

Hope it helps

Hello shah , thanks for great information, Now I am happy and clear.
But do we have to arrange for address for posting PR card prior to arrival or I can give address of guest house or paying guest house or temporary accomodation.

it just seems like a lot of money to carry in a bank draft. yet i plan to carry all my savings that way coz then i dont have to worry about transfer arrangements. am i right in carrying all my savings in one bank draft the day i enter?

also i heard that we need to take out health insurance the moment we land becoz ohip doesnt cover us till 3 months later. what is blue cross? can we take it at the airport? is it cheaper to take it as a couple..i.e. i can buy it when i land for myself and my spouse who will land a few hours later. thanking u in advance for the help!
