Do i need to get the certificate from all states i stayed in after age 18 or just get it from place where my permanenr residence was.

Is there a standard letter format that I need to use?

I reckon its best to obtain one police clearance certificate from the current city of you residence specially the nearest police station.. As far as my knowledge goes its addressed to the Police Commissioner of that area and I think (but I am not sure) the clearance is adjacently coordination with the CBI department of India.

For india it is easy to get the police certificate. Go to the india embassy closest to you as requst for th police clearance form. Fill it. Pay $65 US (that what they took from me in NY) and in 2 weeks you should get it .

you are right its 20 dollar per person but the Jerks ask you for 15 dollar additional fee for the return of document

I called the SFO indian consulate and the way the people talk is much worse then the way then any Indian railway station inquiry person talks
