Dear friends,
I have learnt that having a drivers training certificate can reduce the auto insurance premium by about 15%. Is that true ! Secondly is it true that this certificate is meant to be acquired before we apply for G license, and only such certificates are accepted by insurance companies. OR just having this certificate is enough to lower my insurance premium irrespective of whether it has been obtained before or after the G license test.
Please suggest.
Hasni,
Driver's training certificate will not reduce your insurance by much. 15% seem a stretch. It is more like 10% of below. So for a $ 350 insurance you will save $ 35 which is a good amount. Other CD's will discuss your other questions.
But my question to you is :
1. What are you doing now? (ways of looking for job)
2. Are you located permanently in Toronto.
3. Have you bought a car / van
4. How are you supporting your family
5. How much is your house rent
6. Are you using food bank ?
7. Are you family members taking the free ESL (English) courses?
Replies in general to the above can help me to help you better.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
When I got my insurance, few years back, the Insurance Adviser asked me whether I have 'Drivers Training Certificate' for discount and asked me to email/fax me. Drivers training certificate was NEVER asked at MTO while issuing/upgrading the driver's license. I think, this discount will only be applicable if you have a new driving license - within last 2 years. After 2 years of driving experience, you get equivalent discount.
It is up to you if you want to discuss your other personal matters on a public forum.

Hi ,
I would strongly recommend an MTO Authorized driver's learning for 20 hours class room and complete 10 hours in class training.
For one it lowers insurance and for 2 it makes you a better driver and makes you aware of certain things which you ordinarily would not ... The price paid is easily recovered from your Insurance ... but do it as close to buying a car as possible as the benefit last for 1st 2-3 years.
Confirm from the School whether they are MTO Authorized and will they give complete 10 hours sessions in car.. Some try to cut corners but when you warn them that you will complain to MTO , they comply. You get the certificate from MTO and not the driving school as a part of your driver's abstract.
Going fees is $300/- to $350/- ... All Stars & All Nations are 2 leading reasonably priced schools ..I prefer the latter one.
