All Modi haters are talking of one post-Godhra riot only and want to stick it on Modi. But then they should stick the blame on Rajiv Gandhi for post Indira assassination riots and also on Indira for the 100s of riots which took place during her tenure as PM. But they don't. The reason is not Modi but the ascendancy of Hindu religion in the corridors of power at Delhi. As long as people belonging to Muslim and Christian communities hold power in the garb of pseudo secularists, Left, liberals etc., everything is fine. All hell broke loose only when their hold is lost because people have lost faith in their corrupt dispensation for more than 5 decades and real democracy in the form of representation for supposedly 83% Hindus take shape. We must have one law for all faiths and do away with this "majority" and "minority" fraud committed on people. People who are majority in even one small town or neighbourhood, become minority in another place and vice-versa. But the real truth is that Hindu religion and culture practised by people living probably in 5% land area (India) and constituting may be 10% of the planet's population is being over-run by Islam and Christianity, which are more powerful, wealthy and in majority compared to Hindus. But all the time claiming and propagating the falsehood that they are minorities in India. What is happening is nothing but a cultural genocide of Hindus, the sample of which is what we see in the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from their homeland.

In today's Toronto newspaper, there is an article by a Modi-baiter, Dionne Bunsha.
She blames Mr. Modi and his party on the nun rape incident. I have given my comment in the feedback section. Please email Ms. Bunshi directly at her email: "dionne11.AT.gmail.com"

But, as a CM of the State he could've ensured the safe return of displaced victims (Hindus and Muslims, as a whole) to their respective homes.

In India, Central Government is very, very powerful compared to a State Government. Party which was in power at Central Government from 2005 to 2013 were hell bent on against Modi. If Gujarat state not elected Modi, two times after riots, certainly he would have languished in Jail and banished from politics.

Rehabilitation of affected people in the same houses/area after religious violence looks good as concept but not practical. Sound concept of rehabilitation advocates moving to a comfort zone rather than live in an environment which can revive painful memories.

Some people are constructed that way, you can see a few on this forum. Why waste your effort on changing their opinions when you can see that their inflated egos eat reason for breakfast. And regardless, people are entitled to their opinions. The good news is this has absolutely no material impact on the Indian PM's visit whatsoever, he will clearly achieve his trade objectives while significantly improving the relationship with Canada. Modi's life is a living example of how to deal with detractors, I don't know anyone in recent history who has been so vilified and continues to plough on and progress.
If one of the objectives of the warm reception and the signals on Indo-Canadian relationship sent by the Harper govt. was to woo the Indo-Cdn vote, I think they've succeeded big time. I've anyways started voting Conservative lately given the ridiculous amount of religious pandering to special interest groups the liberals are famous for. The Modi reception gives me one more reason.
