Apply for a visa for your new born , if you don't have the time for OCI.

The visa usually comes in less than a week for India.

After you come back you can always apply for the baby's OCI ..or you can also apply for the baby's OCI , when you are in India.

Thanks Adamthorat.
One small doubt, when you say visa, is it the Indian tourist VISA you are referring. Can we get that VISA without having return Ticket to Canada.I was under impression that Tourist VISA can only be possible if I have a return ticket back in Canada.Correct me if wrong.
Also In case we are going back to India and not any plans of travelling back to Canada. Then can we apply OCI in India for the kid with new born's Canadian Passport.
Thanks!

I think the baby is of Indian origin so you apply for ENTRY VISA ( aka Visitor Visa )..see link below

http://www.blsindia-canada.com/entryvisa.php

Tourist Visa is more for foreigners, say a white Canadian who wants to visit India.
See link below for Tourist visa . indian origin also can apply for it if they want.

http://www.blsindia-canada.com/touristvisa.php

But in your case Visitor Visa ( aka entry visa ) is much better than Tourist visa , as it has less restrictions and also longer duration.

Yes you can apply for OCI in India , if you have NO intention of coming back to Canada. They don't care, and can't find out either way. In fact you will need the OCI to stay in India, as the Visitor Visa will expire soon.

Why don't you complete the formalities over here instead ? It only takes 2 months from start to finish to get the OCI for the baby in Canada. By the time atleast the baby would be 2-3 months old.

Do you really want to travel to India with a 10 day old baby ? Think of the diseases, health risks etc.

Maybe there are some immunizations , vaccinations etc which have to be done in the first 2-3 months after the baby is born before she/he is fit and healthy enough to travel :)

Apply for the baby's Canadian PP , then apply for the OCI immediately over here only. Its going to take you couple of months to wind up anyways..in the meantime the baby's OCI will come.

Why waste money around 130 bucks on a VISA , then again waste money on a OCI ..for around 280 bucks get a OCI over here to begin with.

Apparently you HAVE to apply for an Entry Visa and NOT a Tourist visa for your baby..in case you are going the Visa route .

http://www.immihelp.com/nri/indiavisa/entry-visa-india.html

India Entry Visa

Eligibility:

An Entry visa is granted to the following types of applicants:

A person of Indian Origin, defined as a person who has held Indian nationality or is a child or grandchild of a person who has held Indian nationality.

In fact, persons of Indian Origin must apply for an Entry Visa instead of a Tourist Visa.

A spouse or child of a person of Indian Origin.

A spouse or dependent family member of a foreign national coming to India on a long term visa such as Employment, Business, Research or Student. In such cases, the duration of the visa granted will end on the same date as the visa duration of the principal visa holder.

The principal visa holder's visa must be issued before the spouse and dependent family members can apply for their Entry visa.

Thanks adamthorat, for the helps.
Your are correct it is better to stay here for 3-4 months after the delivery and complete the process. That is what I am trying to do .But just making sure in case that doesn't works then I have a alternate route too.

A general rule of thumb is to avoid air travel for a new born until at least they turn a year old. Weigh all the pros and con's carefully since we have had an unfortunate incident occur to one of our CDs. You may search for his post. I hope nothing is more important than the well being of a new born child.

Good luck, travel safe.
