Hi goldeneye.. India does allow dual citizenship now, you have to apply for it though. The charge is $421. Check out the Consulate General of India website at cgitoronto.ca It takes around 2 months. You get a registeration card which looks like an Indian passport and registers you as an OCI (Overseas Citizen Of India). They also put a visa on the Canadian passport which has lifelong validity and eligible for multiple entry.
Being parents of Indian origin we should be able to add my babies name on my wife's indian passport. I will check with the Indian Consulate here.
Have already checked with the doctors if the baby can travel and they have given the go ahead.
Thanks everybody for the replies back. This certainly helps.

Thank you for the information. But they definately do give you an OCI registeration card which looks like an Indian passport. It is a booklet of around 8-10 pages and mentions all the terms and conditions in it. I know this because I was given one by the Indian Consulate here in Toronto around 6 weeks back.
Will check with the Indian Consulate here as well.
Anyways thanks a lot guys for all the information. Have a great day.

Thanks goldeneye for all detailed info.I do not think that canadian citizenship has to be surrendered to get indian citizenship again.I do agree that residency condition has to be met to get indian citizenship but i did not find anywhere that canadian or any other citizenship has to be surrendered for that.
Thanks and regards
How long does it take to get an OCI Card.
Mine took a max of 3 months from the date my application was submitted.
