Hello CDs,
I came across this site while searching about Jobs & Life in Canada. I went through many old posts and found useful info, for which I'm thankful to you all
Apex Visas consultants (Pune) led us into believing that a huge Job market exists in my field in Canada and got our Canadian PR processed. Now they are not helping with my job search even after paying.
My wife is a Software Engineer (Senior QA) and her Company is sending her to Toronto on a long-term assignment. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, working in a global Automobile company as a Technical Trainer, Internal Auditor for Dealers, provide Field Technical Support & Dealer Development. I'm also a Certified Advance Vehicle Diagnosis Expert & Hybrid Vehicle diagnosis Expert. Although my company has a branch in Toronto, they said internal transfers don't happen in Automobile industry the way it works in Software Industry. Hence I have resigned from my job recently and both of us will probably fly to Toronto next week.
Reading articles on Job market in Toronto worries me. I'm wondering if I have made a good decision by quitting my well-paid job (not boasting ) in India and moving to a place where Jobs are bleak in my field. I would be grateful if any of you can provide references for Automotive Organizations/jobs for any of my roles mentioned above.
Thanks a ton in advance!

HOw much did they charge you for this? I would not blame them. Canadian govt. itself does publicity inviting immigrants based on so much (non existant) jobs available in Canada. Apex is just a small fry which used the Govt. of Canada publicity to earn a living.

Good. A bright spot. Hope they will be paying her atleast $ 60K per year.

Hope you have good communication skills. Otherwise, this looks like a white person dominated job front. For Desi's jobs available are commission based car selling for this profile.

Donot want to be negetive here. One Mr. Dimple 2001 of CD has a work profile similar to yours. He will help you by posting soon.
DOnot ever compare India with Canada. India had recently introduced the auto market and it is a booming field. People will just hire you there and train you. On the other hand, Canada has a more mature and saturated auto market. There was a very big recession in 2009 from which the Canadian auto market had never recovered. Many auto industry people have shifted careers due to second career scheme. Now auto market is at a steady space. Hope that you can find some slot in it.
Adam Thorat will inform you about the current situation in Canada/ Southern Ontario.
As far as I know, automative jobs are in woodstock, Oshawa, Guelph, Windsor.
All the very best landing in India

Thanks for the reply tamilkuravan! BTW, I'm a South Indian too.
- Apex charged us Rs.75,000 (60k for visa & 15k for Job assistance).
- Regarding my wife's job, still waiting for confirmation. Fingers crossed.
- Most jobs that are similar to my profile require bilingual skills (English & French). Maybe I should start learning basic French.
- Hopefully I can get a job which is not very far from Toronto.
Waiting for Adam Thorat's & Dimple 2001's suggestions & help
Private agencies are in the business of selling you dreams. If you cannot do due diligence, why blame them? In this day and age of internet, it is very easy from any corner of the world to go on job sites and do a search to see what is there and what the requirements are before taking a major step like immigration and resigning from your current job.
Mechanical engineering is a controlled field. Licensing is required in Ontario as P. Eng. Others in this field can advise you further.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
I had the similar profile prior to migrating to Canada – worked for Escorts and Eicher Goodearth in PPC, Engine Testing, Warranty Claims, Sales & Service, Dealers Development and Special Marketing Events Management. After working exhaustively for so many years in India, I wanted to get away from that life. There were other reasons too – like lack of information at that time when internet was not so popular and I was computer illiterate at that time, willingness to go for higher studies, not much paying jobs in the same domain so I decided for a career change. Long story short – consider following points:
Find out that whether your current profession is the only profession which will give you absolute job satisfaction? Are you willing to move or you are meant only for that profession?
If so, research and meet with the people in the same domain and find out how they get to that position. What are the skills/qualifications/requirements you are missing? When and how can you fill those gaps? You may have to go through cold calling to cold visits to them and try to get appointments to talk to them for few minutes to get the real scenario. It may a long way but not impossible. You may have to upgrade your technical knowledge and may have to go back to school for short term courses. Find out the license requirements in that domain and how can you get it under ‘Foreign Trained Professional’.
If you can move to another career, first find out one where you can transport your existing qualifications/knowledge/skills so that you will have an edge over the others. If you are good in sales, car sales could be a domain and I know people making close to 100K which are good in sales and public relationships. Service adviser is another domain which needs a lot of opportunities. Find out what you are born for.
In India, if you work in any area for few years, most of the time you are stuck with that profession. In Canada, you will get opportunities to move around. You can explore yourself – what you really want to do, what you missed or I will say live another life in the same lifetime – huh - too much philosophical?
Good luck for your forthcoming altogether new experience.

A Delhite in Toronto
Your wife has a VERY bright future over here, you NOT so much. She will immediately get a job in her field and you will struggle a lot.
She will wear the pants in the house and you will wear the skirt.
She will always make more than you over here, this will play on your male ego and psyche. Your life will be like the famous Hindi picture by the one and only and living legend Amitabh Bacchaan and his wife Jaya Bacchann.
Its the 1973 film " Abhimaan " .. Aka Pride in English. Your career will deteriorate with each passing day and her career will soar with each day. You will become a housewife over here and she will become the househusband , she will be the bread winner in the house and the primary giver and will BOSS you around.
Expect a low level job for yourself and a high level job for her, if you are OK with that come here.
At the end of the day she is in IT and you are NOT. If you do P. Eng ( google it ) ..you have some hope, otherwise none. P.Eng will be a long tedious and expensive process, you will nedd lot of determination and hard work to finish it. In the mean time your wife will be supporting you and paying the bills and you will be sitting home studying or doing an exhausting low level job, which pays a pittance
Har har Mahadev ! Me Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy !
