Lol Adam,
This was what was told to me in 2002 itself. Unfortunately, I was 6 months in labour job and hence could not do this. I got my profession job after 6 months but put with chinese and east european and Egyptians (who could not speak very good english) and hence lost it.

The catch 22 is, when you are searching for a job, who do you speak this to? and when you get a job and push you in a corner, then how do you develop it. Canada does not offer talk time during office hours (esp. in industrial setting).

A lot of refugees (esp. Pak ) people who used to work in Gas station, developed a very good accent and speaking to Gora familiarity as they served people everytime.

Points to ponder.

Murali

Then through your wife's connections in IT get an entry level job in IT in her company or elsewhere and move up from there :).

You can even volunteer ( free work, no pay ) or do some internship type or Co-Op type job to get Valuable experience. Canada is a cheap country that loves FREE work from volunteers or low paid interns. Volunteers do almost $ 1 Billion dollars of FREE work in this broke ass country, hoping that one day they will get a job in their field..he he :(

Or do P.Eng in your field, but that's a long, tedious, time consuming and expensive process. Lot of time, energy and patience will be required :(. But worth it in the end.

It might look like grass is greener on the other side. Manual testing field is quite competitive in Toronto area and it is not that easy to get a break. It is good that your wife made a landing with a job in hand. For you, switching to IT will also take its own time. So, you will have to decide stick to automotive engineering job search or stick to job search in a particular area in IT.

Test automation is a whole different ball game.

Getting into Manual Testing as a fresher or few-year fake exp is also tough. Sometimes I feel bad that he had to quit his awesome job & come here coz of me :(

About buying a Condo- still a far fetched dream :) Maybe after few years.

You can always take a Canadian PP and Citizenship and move to US or wherever you want, after 3-4 yrs :). Canada can be just a stepping stone for other bigger and greater things :)

As I always say , Use Canada The Same Way Canada Uses You , and you won't have any regrets about coming here :), and Don't even feel sorry about it :)

Think like a Gora, Talk like a Gora and Act like a Gora ..you have to beat them at their own game and teach them a lesson they won't forget for the rest of their life :)

What really is the benefit of moving to US over Canada? Do we get free education & healthcare & any other benefits? Isn't US more racist & unsafe due to liberal gun laws?? Canada seems better in that aspect.

Don't worry about US for now, and don't get confused in the early stages. Focus on Canada, on your job, and your husband's career. That's it. Take one thing at a time, and don't burden yourself with unnecessary targets. Don't even think about buying a house at this stage and until both of you are somewhat settled down within your respective careers.

And, mind it - DO NOT ever buy a Condo/Townhouse for they are the worst investments in this part of the world.

Good advice FP. OP, first focus on getting settled here. I read a suggestion by a member on this thread about trying your husbands luck in IT. Some people here think that IT is an easy job to get into by faking experiences. Please understand that the IT domain in GTA is filled with very qualified people. This is not 1998. A good interviewer can easily see past the resume during the interview. Also, everyone does job background checks. The people who are suggesting this doesnt have anything to lose. So take the advice you get in a public forum with a grain of salt.
