Hi ,

In case someone has completed his MBBS from India , how can he apply for an MD or MS from Canada ... I know for the US there's an entrance known as MLE , not sure how the process is for Canada.

In case anybody knows more , please share.

Please go through this website first and get to know the process.

More on it if you need to pursue it further.

There is a fair chance of getting in. But it looks laborious when you take the look at the requirements to qualify and the syllabus that they have to go through once more to get the same Degree. Looks like that they provide NO exemptions, at the outset.

One studious boy known to me, when he was about 15 years old was all set to leave for Canada on his parent's family visa/PR. The boy had his visa stamped and ready and was about to leave in a few months. But his good for nothing parent returned back in 6 months unable to face realities. Now the boy has completed his MBBS from a reputed government college on merit and studying MD (General Medicine) in a premier medical research institute in India. Is it possible for him to apply on his own for his higher education in medicine? Will his visa get approved/fast tracked or rejected?

Please do your due diligence, even if it takes an year, before he gets in. By then he should have an year under his belt to enter as an Immigrant....

There are two sides to this equation and one has no connection with the other and hence he has to tackle the issues very diligently and if he succeeds, then, he will complete his higher education in this field very successfully.

First he will have to contact the Medical board and get all of the details that he needs to complete and if his entry into Canada and the education that he wants to complete will move smoothly with the help of their boards. In short he should get all of the help from them to sort his clerkship. In short, NO HANG UPS.

1. Complete at least 2 to 3 years of undergrad. Make sure you take any prerequisite courses (each med school is different). Mean while, keep up your GPA, get involved in your school and community, and take the MCAT.
2. In the Fall of your 3rd or 4th year of undergrad, you are eligible to apply to med school - this usually involves a list of your awards/activities, a personal essay of some sort, and 3 reference letters (this varies from school to school). Keep in mind that many applicants are also Masters and Phd students, as well as people in the working world who have previously completed undergrad degrees.
3. In Feb-April, med schools send out Rejections and Interview Invites. The interview is usually either a traditional style interview (1 doctor and 1 med student doing a 30-45 minute interview with you) or the Multiple Mini Interview (where you do 10 different 10-minute stations where you must discuss ethical scenarios, act, etc.).
4. In May, for applicants who were interviewed, you find out whether you were accepted, wait listed (this means you might get in if a spot frees up) or rejected.

The most challenging part about medical school is the volume of information you are expected to know. There's a lot of memorization. I am the type of learner who is more into "understanding why", but a lot of medicine is just knowing the facts, which has been particularly challenging for me. If you don't like rote memorization, medicine can be really frustrating sometimes.

Medical school is as stressful as you want it to be for the most part. No one tells you how much to study. Some people go to the library and study everyday. Others cram days before the exam.

In terms of sleep deprivation, once you start clerkship (3rd/4th year) and are in the hospital full time, there are some days when you will be "on call" where you work 24 hour+ shifts. Depending on what department you are in, you may or may not sleep during those 24 hour shifts.

Medicine has it's pros and cons, but you shouldn't think it's as glamorous as many people think. It's one of those jobs where you don't realize how tough it can be until you're knee deep in it. There are definitely quite a few people who end up regretting going into the profession.

The second side is getting an entry as an Immigrant. See if he can enter as an Immigrant because he already has an MBBS Degree. which is in demand here in Canada. But he has no experience, which it calls to Immigrate into Canada and work here. If he gets in, then teh fees etc., will be easy on his pockets. If he is married, then, the wife can do the supplementing the needs that arise. The CIC which gives entry does not care if he gets into Medicine as they have no control over the body that regulates this profession, hence the NO CONNECTION with each other.

Also read the article on those who studied in Government Colleges there in India. That is news to me. I just included that here for you to evaluate the issues that are floating there in India.

FH.

Will definitely pass on all that you have provided.
The volume of information you have gathered for the student's sake is mind boggling. But it is business as usual at your end, like a batsman scoring century every time he comes out to bat. May your good work continue. We bow our head in gratitude and also it is lesson how to use CD for constructive purposes.

So this guy went through medical education and wants to be endorsed by west so he can feel validated? If he is truly set on moving forward with further training, it looks like India is a trash heap so he needs prove himself to his white peers? And perhaps serve them? Or is he after cold hard dollars? If dollars is his goal and he does not want to stock the shelves (so he can be taught modesty and humbleness) or drive cab, it is worth the risk. But if he is smart and genuinely strong in his grasp of medical science, he may have better luck trying to get into US. US has a better, more mature ways of screening India-trained medicine men. Singapore is nearby where he can demonstrate his prowess of medicine to US boards (ECFMG or something like that). After reaching US, if his dying desire is to lay at the feet of the Anglo bosses in Canada, he can take a pay cut and move to Canada. US training and certification is more readily accepted by Canada than those of India. If he shows up, he will have to first take deficient course to have his training even recognized. These dirtbags have no sense of belonging nor any commitment to a society that probably laboriously subsidized their training. I have no sympathy for these scum.

I am not sure how the above post helps in the discussion without providing any solution to the points raised. Lets trust the candidates judgment in deciding what they have wanted to do in Canada ... and try to help on the logistics...

FH as usual rocks ... Thanks FH
