...here if your house and car is paid off and your kids are on their own then even $2000 per month is too much money.

Hi Mishtar India, nice post and examples!
I was thinking if one has an equivalent paid off house in India, and a decent car according to asian / indian standards, life would be little better in India, with far less than 2000$ a month.

just another opinion!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
case B, another close relative spent 25yrs in gulf ...had a great career when children grew up and they had a choice of going to india or come to canda , they went back to india to live with family in their native place ....today they regret their decision....although they are close to family etc ...25 yrs overseas changed their likes and lifestyles in a big way ....india may be modernizing but it still has ways to go to offer the same level of comfort , security and lifestyle as West would offer....and Canada still has the doors open you immigrants to sponsor their parents in a fairly short time , 4yrs or so
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Even you move back to India mishter India's point B is a real fact :(

I am sure you must have included your children as your dependant when you filed your immigration papers and your main reason for applying would have been a good future for your children and a good retired life for you.

Now you can have your cake and eat it too !

Do your medicals and enter Canada along with your children. Within three years (by which time your children would have completed their education in India), your children should re-enter Canada and retain their PR status and you can continue to work in the Middle East. After your productive working life in the Middle East (by which time your children would have established themselves in Canada with good jobs and Canadian passports) your children can sponsor you as their dependant parents and you can retire peacefully in Canada with a good saving.

We are planning to take the above route and the children are on their independent status once they land in Canada with their own PR card/SiN card.

Faisal, I agree...it would cost much less in india to live with a paid off house and car....but is cost of living the only factor.

here are some very basic challenges which Case B faces ...security - after returning after 25 yrs abroad ...they have to live with a very low profile ....after number of security breaches, they now have a guard sittng at their gate all the time ....this is in posh area of Delhi , the capital city , interiors of india is no better .....i am not saying that things are very bad but when you have a society where the gap betweens haves and have not is so huge as we have in india ...there are bound to be problems .
the very basic need of water and elevtricity is a challenge in summers ....i thot things would have improved ., saw it first hand this summer....and i realized we have ways to go to be at with the basic minimums available to canadians.

what is our very basic expectations from anyplace where we plan to settle ?....security, and basic reliable infrastructure ....many strides are being made in india on this front but we have ways to go.

we can go on and on ...but these are the very basic things why case B regrets after returning to india having stayed overseas for long.

Those living in india are pretty much used to the conditions there ...for those who are accustomed and have their children born and grow up in a very different and safe environment , it would take a lot of mental and physical grit to settle happily back in india.

Another thing people talk about is extreme climate in canada....
and it is funny that people in gulf worry about it more .

Climate in canada is just as extreme as it is in Middle east . just that mercury dips on the opposite side here:D ..there one's car gets stuck in sand here it gets stuck in snow. a few times in winter...but its an experience , one enjoys it in retrospect.

but we hardly feel the brunt of extreme climate on a daily basis from behind the window in a heated room.
yes if you go to india the most you can controll is the temp in you house and office .... that too if there is power .... rest of the places one needs to keep sweating.

I once again totlly agree with Mr. India..

Speaking about case B, Security, Gap between the Section of people, Need good education for your children.? with the system on now... it won't take too long to go bankrupt...otherwise you have to push your children to the limit...Finally tax.... u pay tax for getting nothing in return...the tax you pay, some class has a right to enjoy & enrich themselves. Plus the tax laws are miserable you earn Rs.5000 P.A as interest from your bank deposits there you pay tax.

I belive after making money in the gulf if one decides to back to India it's good for them and may not be for their children, at the same time if they migrate to anyland it's good for their children and hard on them.

However in between there is a way if you are happy and satisfied in the gulf then stay where you are, make more money and then can send your children for studies anywhere.

Hi Sunil,

My frank opinion is...the first thing you have to decide is that you are going to settle down in Canada...

Then comes your attitude..lifestyle etc. If you are Polished, like western lifestyle, standrad of living etc then you would be fit for Canada.

But at your age if you like traditional lifestyle, has close ties and friends/relatives in India, conservative in nature, then its better off in India.

At your age, its not worth re certifying and building up a career its possible but a herculean task.

You are fortunate that you have the option of making money in Gulf and settling in Canada.

If you manage to buy a house CAD 250k, and have a household income of 3000 CAD you can have a decent living.

I would say, go on a visit to Canada..have a look at the place feel it and decide its upto your liking and decide whats best for you.

Deep

Hi SunilfromDelhi,

It is really difficult for any person to decide whether to take Canada as the final destination or came back to India. I would like to add my 2cents as that since you have already spent $2000 and are in final stage, you should go and visit canada...and many of our senior desis have asuggested in their earlier posts too...that (The people who are holding High positions in career already can) take canada to be an expensive holiday ( For about 3 months) take your PR, feel the country , Culture and Opportunities...and then decide...otherwise you may always fall back on a situation B with nothing left but to regret..

All the best..
