Dear All senior Canadian residents ,
Please advise me and motivate or discourage me suitably based upon your experience of living in Canada. I invite positive and negative opinions for the benefit of applicants living in Gulf without any prejudice.
1. I am Mechanical Engineer living in Gulf since last 11 years.
2. I am having another 3 years employment contract i.e. till Sept 2007 I can live in Gulf without problem.
3. I am earning 45,000 US $ per annum (100 % tax free). Saving potential 11,00000 INR after expanses per year.
4. I visit twice India and within 1 day I can reach in case of emergencies.
My wife visit India 4 times in a year.
5. I have \"Toyota Corolla\" new car. Big 2 bed room rented apartment. And 100 % relaxed life. As Job which I am doing is tension free. Bosses are care free. I am boss of my own. Company is very big and reputed. Give bonus / increment every year.
6. My two children have studied in schools in Gulf. Now Younger is doing MBBS in Mumbai and Elder is doing Fashion Design in Ahmedabad.
With above status I seek to get opinion of my country people to advise me suitably about migating to Canada.
As
1. I have to get professional certification as my long experience as specialist engineer is no use in Canada. Without certification I can not get job in Canada in regulated profession. Certification is along process.
2. I have to start again from the beginning.
3. I have to spend from my savings for 1 year before I get a reasonable job which in any case will not be equal to my salary level as at present.
4. I will not have the freedom to visit India as often as now.
5. My children in middle of their professiuonal studies .
6. I may get a job at the place where temperature conditions are worst.
I have already spent about 2000 Can $ on my application. Now I have to spent on medicals, ROLF , travel expanses for SIN cards and on other pre and post immigration expanses including leaving the present job.

I agree with all your points. However if you are the kind of person who would lnot like to go back to india for good than you got to keep canada open. However you are not bound to stay in Canada. You childern seem to be settled so are you. For a person like me who had started in the gulf for just 3 years did not matter moving to Canada and starting again. On the contrary I also know well settled families in the gulf who have moved to canada and made it happen too. Once you get your immigration papers you can delay ur entry for a year ( infact delay doing your medicals as much as possible to benefit from one year from date of medical thing. After your entry you can stay for 2 more years out of the country for any given 5 years to apply for citizneship and stuff. My guess is for 3-4 years you can enjoy the benefit of luxuty and tax free. In that period if you feel your not doing okay in the Gulf you always have an option of canada

Many people in your situation and have decided one way or the other, taking opinions from them will help you greatly .
I am probably much younger to you and a mech engineer as well who has lived in gulf.
If you want to come to Canada , then come for the right reasons. Making money in career ...is NOT the right reason to come to Canada. This is one of the reasons i feel many indian feel dejected after coming here and realizing that even tho their are many other positives of this society , there is no much career benefits compared to Gulf or far east. But that doesnt mean that life is tough....it is far from tough ...i feel Canada is one of the best places in the world to be, more so from a desi stand point . Many on this forum will differ with me , but thats ok ....i always believed and i am now experiencing it for myself ...that Canada is the best place in the world for a indian to settle down.
Here are 2 cases i can help you to relate to :
A , an uncle of mine , spent 20 yrs in Gulf had a great career , when faced with choice of either going to india or come to canada , decided for canada...today he has a nice paid off house a decent job ...it took him 6 months to get into his own field...his family is very happy and they sometimes regret why they did not come here sooner ....i ask him how about going back to Gulf ....they say never ever again ....they have a good future ,...kids are in good univs and they look forward to a good retirement....of course Canada is not a bed of roses , there are problems here as well in healthcare here and there , but over all they completely are enjoying here ....here if your house and car is paid off and your kids are on their own then even $2000 per month is too much money.
case B, another close relative spent 25yrs in gulf ...had a great career when children grew up and they had a choice of going to india or come to canda , they went back to india to live with family in their native place ....today they regret their decision....although they are close to family etc ...25 yrs overseas changed their likes and lifestyles in a big way ....india may be modernizing but it still has ways to go to offer the same level of comfort , security and lifestyle as West would offer....and Canada still has the doors open you immigrants to sponsor their parents in a fairly short time , 4yrs or so .
In short if a person fresh out of college would ask me , should i go to Canada or Gulf ...i'd say go to gulf and make some money but when a person has worked there for over 10-15 yrs ...then Canada is the place to come.
But thatsmy cent and a half from my perspective. ... differring opinions are welcome .

This issue s been dscsd now and then and wud definitely pay 2 read the earlier posts . Migration s a bif decisoin of 1s life . U r n a way changing ur identity which u dont do n d Gulf . N d Gulf u make money , lead a cool life , enjoy a good position and after 10 - 15 years think of settling down -- either n India / Canada .......
If 1 looks @ settlement option ie looking @ a place where u d live thru out ur life (similar 2 India ) then Gulf is a transit which 'fuels' u but the journey is onwards . If u think of moolah and savings --Gulf is the place.
If u appreciate nature , life style , society Canada .However if u prefer career & money its Gulf .......... Its based on ur preference . 2 help u decide there r no hard n fast rules ------- u ve been n the Gulf ----spend a month or so n Canada-- feel the life ........ judge 4 urself and then u have the option 2 return 2 Gulf and stay there 4 3 years .
Alternatively even after u come here and u r nt able 2 settle down well u always have the option of working elsewhere (however I know that s easier said then done esp post the age of 40 )

You can take suggestions from others and you can also take examples of other immigrants. Finally it is you who have to decide your future priorities based on your own preferences.
If you would like to spend money to evaluate the canadian option by spending further onto your future PR expenses, It is worth a try.
