I found on research that going on EI for depression is NOT easy as some physical ailment is better.
I have high cholestrol and prediabetes , 2 months back i went to hospital emergency for chest pains
Will frequent chest pain and uneasiness will be enough to go on EI for sickness ??
u have enough information ... good luck

Kacchu,
A medical note is needed.
Go to your family doctor and tell him that you want to get some rest and want to be on EI due to health issues.
Generally many doctors will oblige, (if what you are saying is true). Ask him to give a note saying that " you will not be able to return back to work" and not like 2-3 months rest.
Since talking to a doc. is not connected to your work place / manager, give it a try. If you donot have a family doctor, then it will be hard, as walk in guys will not give it.

It may not be that easy. Doctor will have to write down that you are so sick that you cannot work for couple of months. Ailments you have mentioned are treated by lifestyle and dietary changes along with medications and not by being off work on bed rest for couple of months.

OP please change the title of this thread. Few suggestions
- tricks to go on EI while I am healthy, skilled & employable.
- I want my employer to lay me off not fire
- ways to abuse the EI system.
- contents of lazy bum survival kit in Canada.
Lets put the hand directly into the bush, instead of beating around it. Believe me you will get better traction with this titles.

You must channelize your energy and time in looking for another job instead of trying to swim holding last straws left in company. You got good number of experience in retail industry, I am sure there are better avenues available.
I also have a hunch you do not have the big picture about the company , its current standing and future direction. My suggestion will be do not try to fight it, you will lose. This is money game where one person will have no stature. ( I will not make same statement for a public enterprise).
Do not take any leaf from bad experiences by TK. My reading is that while TK's case was of more of an individual, In your case it is company wide issue which you alone should not cannot fight. Look somewhere else for now. At the same time , as TK suggested , keep documenting the facts in case you need to prove the constructive dismissal to safe guard your EI.
