Dear CD's,
As you know, I lost my job in Canada in Dec. 2010. It was then that I decided to go to India. Once I did that, I got a job in Vaughan (55K) which I declined. Then I got in Saudi. But the visa process took more than 4 months. Then I got a job in Cochin when I imemdiately joined. This was Apirl 2011.

For the past 2 years, there was no projects. Though I was paid CAD 2000 per month, I was doing small jobs like checking on renovations, small handy man work etc..

Yesterday, the HR called me and told me that since I was receiving a high salary and since there was no work, that the management wants to terminate me and that I will be relived by Nov. 30.

I offered a 50% discount in my salary to keep my job but the HR manager said that it was an insult to other employees and hence asked me to move on.

My brother in Chennai is taking care of my 80% disabled mother. I may relocate to Chennai to take partial care of my mother till her death.

There are very few job oppertunities in India now.

After my mother's death I may come to Vancouver or preferably move to the Gulf for a few more years.

Due to some family situations, I have saved only around Rs 10 lakhs during this time. I could have saved Rs 22 lakhs. I thought that this job was there for life but with the Oil crash, it is otherwise.

Many projects in Kerala (commercial) are shut down due to oil crash. Our office is not able to sell any of their commerical or residential projects and hence they are not in a position to start new projects. All their money is stuck up.

I will have to return to office supplied laptop, phone, Internet connection.

Murali

Were you seeking some advice or is this post just as an FYI for your old CD friends.

Good luck TK. Hope you will find an alternative.
I am on extensive travel in India ... Things are getting more complicated here also not rosy as it appears to be. Except enjoying some food and few services, it is not easy for the people who are out of the system for quite some time (Who travelled and lived in abroad ........ became better humans ).:)

Thanks SS and Gurram.
This post was FYI and also seeing some advice on the alternatives available.

For example, I will have to turn in my office laptop. Though I have 2 more personal laptops, they are not working that well. Getting them repaired is one option. Buying a new furbished one is another. Any recommendations?

After talking to a few of my friends, all tell me that conserving cash should be the major objective now. I could have saved more. I also got other oppertunities for career growth but due to family distractions, I was unable to take them at that point of time.

TK - you must be in stress/pressure so don't take any major decision right now. Just relax and take it like a break. After a week or so, plan for the future. Make a list of all your skills and see which jobs suits you. Check out all options and finalize at least 3-4 options. Start trying all 3-4 options at the same time and pick the one which matures first.

Take it in a positive way. There must be better for you in future so it happened. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your job. I know you will bounce back. Here is one that I heard about a few days ago. I know you can land this one. Might take a few weeks to get it into completion.
Good Luck.

Sir,
It was a Christian company.
But even then, does it matter. All companies look at their bottom line. I was paid very good salary and I am greatful to them for giving me facilities which was denied to me, even in Canada.

Besides, they gave me a month notice (though it was 2 months on either side in the contract) and I am greatful for them.

Unfortunately Cochin is not a good town to find high paying jobs and I have to travel to Bangalore for good pay jobs. Due to some family reason, I am looking at Chennai to settle down, till my mother dies. After that, the world is my limit.
