Visitor ins rates may be chacked with ING also . As of today TIC and ING are the good companies offering competitive medical ins for visitors. Depending uopn age, sum insured and some other factors one which is offering cheaper ins can be choosen.

Recently, I came to know that it is not a must for visitors to insure in the sense that you can activate it once you realize that you are going to need it. The Modus operandi is like this...
If you know some agent, give all the particulars of visitors and keep the forms ready. Do not activate this policy and once you realize they (visitors) are going to need it (God forbid) you can immediately convey to your agent to start the policy from that date.... I have not taken like this policy but you can save if you do not activate during the tenure of visit.

The Indian Insurance had a $ 100 US deductable in my case and so basically all it covered was Big cases and not small cases where payment is under that whereas in trent there was no deductable and they made payment very smoothly in 1 -2 month time.

Most doctors will not accept insurance and u will have to pay them upfront and then claim from insurance company.
