British queen honours Om Puri

Om Puri has been named an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
The honour was conferred on the veteran actor in recognition of Puri's 'outstanding services to the film industry', a release from the British high commission in New Delhi said.
The investiture ceremony is likely to be held in Mumbai.
The actor's journalist wife Nandita Puri broke this news in her column in Mid-Day. Puri wrote, 'Om is quite a household name in England.' She also added that he is 'perhaps the first Indian actor to be nominated in the Best Actor category for BAFTA [the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards]'.
Puri's memorable films include Ardh Satya, Aakrosh, Mandi, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Chachi 420, My Son The Fanatic, East is East and Maqbool, to name just a few.

Om Puri is a remarkable actor in himself. Who can forget his roles in TAMAS and YATRA - both of which were televised on Doordarshan years back.
He very rightfully deserved this honour.

I too read this news and felt pride. Om Puri is a wonderful actor. I can not forget his live acting in Tamas (TV Serial) and Ardh Satya.

Difference b/w Om Puri and Nasseiruddin Shah ..... 2 cine greats .
Nasseiruddin Shah always retains an element of himself in whatever role he plays ----- whereas Om Puri sheds it and lets the character surface in whatever he plays --- be it the peasent in Akrosh , Husband in Astha , watch man in Mirch masala or DIG Tej in "Dev" .Hey , how can v 4get him oppositte Gere in "A city of Joy"

How do yu rate Balraj Sahani and Moti Lal? I do not include Dilip kumar and Amitabh in this list. In my opinion they are more a hero than an actor who play a role.

From comedy to serious roles he can do it all with ease.
East is East is one of the best movies I saw.
Truly great actor.

I havent seen any of Blaraj sahinis films except for small clips or songs. Seniors swear by him. He must have been a great actor.

there are a lot of actors in regional films and who perform in State level theatre that are considered very good. In fact all of the above listed people at one time were in theatre, which may be a big reason why they are so good. Most of them are there because of true talent as opposed to good looks, being sons or daughters of film stars, etc....
