Hi,
I am staying with a friend & his family. Plan to find out a house after about a month since my wife & kids join me in October end.
first 2 days have been good. Opened a bank a/c in CIBC yesterday & deposited settlement funds drafts, travellers' cheques. Since I had taken out my health card the day before, it became possible for me to open a bank a/c since it mentioned the address where I am staying.
Visited a few malls like TD Square, Walmart, etc. Starting to get familiar with the bus & train system. The sun was out yesterday which felt good.
All in all, Calgary seems to be a good city with companies like Microsoft, HP, Telus, Sunlife, etc. having offices here apart from the major oil & gas reserves nearby.

It is good to see people landing in Calgary and also some CD members are in Halifax, Montreal, and Vancouver. Otherwise this site would have become torontodesi.com instead of canadiandesi.com

Hi Ottawa Nerd
Thanks for the tips.
I am currently staying on 12th Avenue S.W. in Sunalta area with a friend. Downtown is quite near about 10 minutes. Will try to find out Plaza today when I go to Harry Hays building near Chinatown.

Let's make India a better place !
Hi,
We ourselves are in the process of moving to Canada. We had planned Toronto as our destination, but lately Calgary has come up as a more tempting option.
A couple of friends who have lived there, told us the cost of living is lower in Calgary, the taxation system more favourable and the economy quite robust.
Although we are not sure about the career opportunities for different kinds of professionals, we are seriously looking into the Calgary option.
Hope we get more information from you on Calgary.

Friends, can some of you motivate me why Calgary was a better place for living and working than Toronto & GTA??
BTW - I noticed for the same price of house in Toronto , Calgary was offering better quality homes... which attracted my attention !
Can Calgary be a an acceptable option for guys in IT/Software fields ???
I shall appreciate your responses.
