Hello Desis,
I am a 30 yr old software engineer and have just moved to Toronto from the US . I am tired of having to survive in an uncertain job climate and have decided to explore entrepreneurial opportunities. I have about CAD$ 70,000 in savings but would like acquire additional fundings/loan through bank loans etc.
I have also registered to attend seminars at http://www.enterprisetoronto.com to gain more knowledge about setting small scale business for immigrants.
I have reviewed various threads in this forum that have offered valuable insights into setting up ones own business but would really welcome your input of how to start the process of setting up ones own indian grocery stores in Canada in terms of investment/infrastructure etc.
Many thanks and regards,
Raghu
We have ever increasing south asian population in GTA and Canada. However according to me we have lots of Indian Grocery stores atleast in Toronto area. So according to me to have an Indian Grocery store in GTA is not viable.
I have seen closing of two Indian grocery stores in Scarborough - just because of competition.

The question to Raghu, I will ask "Why Indian Grocery Store as entrepreneurial endeavor?" Why not soemthing related to Software Engineering or IT field?
In addition to Enterprise Toronto, also check out Toronto Business Development Center http://www.tbdc.ca
Just a word of caution, entrepreneurship is not an alternative to uncertain job climate. It is still easier to find a job than start a business. Usually it takes 3 years to have sustaining and viable business.
GG, there are pockets of areas in Toronto with no decent Indian grocery store but I am not sure if there is enough desi pop. to support one either. Look Eastward from Jane Subway station up to Christie.
