Okay so you are now here...or planning to come here. We know life is tough. But let us assume you have your dream job either in Canada or the USA....which country would you choose and why? Top 3 reasons.
My choice: Canada: No political Jingo-ism
Better educated people
More elbow room!!

Canada. In my case, I've really made that choice, I lived in the U.S. longer than I have in Canada.
1) Locals (whites, blacks and desis) so much easier to get along with. Very friendly indeed. In the states (I lived in NJ), I was always made to feel like a foreigner, like I didn't belong. And this feeling was perpetrated sometimes by people of my own race. I honestly do feel a sense of belonging here in Canada, I've never felt out of place.
2) I've never experienced any form of racism here (maybe this is tied up with Reason #1 in some ways). You get treated just like the white guy sitting next to you in restaurants. The society here is so much more heterogenous, you walk into a Walmart and you'll see people from so many different cultures (many dressed in their traditional garb without worrying about getting wierd looks from strangers)
3) Much lower rate of crime. At least in Mississauga where I live. I've taken walks care-free around 1:00 a.m. quite a few times without worrying about anything. Could not dream about that in NJ.
There's many more but you asked for 3.
Of course I'm making less money than I was in the U.S. And there are certainly things I miss about days back there, I was single, had some great friends and enjoyed my time there. The biggest difference I notice is that in the states, I was confined to a desi friend-circle and desi-activities only. Here I'm able to do much more.

Are you there?
I do agree that Canada is a better place to settle down if Job/Work is not a issue
But if job career growth is considered I believe USA is much better place particularly for an IT professional

Canada , Canada all the way.
For all the reasons that BL mentioned and more.
US offers a greater range of diverse places to visit from beaches of Florida to Grandcanyon and fantastic National parks but those places are as accessible form canada as it is from any other US state.
So why not be here in an environment which is so much more friendly and accepting to us.

What can be imagined, can be achieved.
well put blue lobster. I think that is right on. It pains me to here some desi's complaining here on this site about Canada. There is a lot of good here...and some bad too. You're going to get that everywhere. I am glad there are people that made the choice to come here happy for reasons that are meaningful. Work and finding work is tough...but that is not the only thing in the world that matters.

Canada, ofcourse.
As BL mentioned, and there are many other reasons.
Even medicals, we may feel that the medical system in Canada sucks, but it is still good to have your OHIP (difft for other provinces). Believe me, recently, one of my family friends had a severe car accident. The parents didn't get hurt at all, but the young daughter had life threatening injuries. She had to be hospitalised in ICU for 3 days and another 7 days in general room. Without OHIP, this person would have sunken into a HUGE debt. The surgery itself would cost like 20K, coz it was a very critical operation conducted by a very well settled Nuero Surgeon. With the help of OHIP it was free. The same person, with similar job and medicals coverage from his work in USA, wouldn't have got these kind of benefits. The way, she was treated in the hospital was a very good exp. Not good in the sense that we enjoyed it, but it was good.
Most of all, I guess, Canada is at a lesser risk as opposed to US when it comes to TERRORISM.
My choice is Canada. I would even go one step further in saying that, even if I make a little less money in Canada, vis-a-vis US, I would still be content to live here peacefully.
