As many of the readers / members on this forum would know, Ihave been in Canada for about 3 years, but in jobs only for about 14 months. While I know I have not been agressive in finding jobs, but at the same time, I have tried all methods - HRDC workshops, Skills for change, Job finding clubs, newspapers, internet, networking ( including letting my hair dresser know that I am looking for a job - as advised by HRDC), cold calling, handing out resumes to retail outlets like Canadian Tire, HY& Zel, etc., sending resumes to placement agencies like Accountemps, Robert Half, PTC, Accountants at call etc. etc. etc., I have not got a single interview in all these years except from placement agencies. They have placed me in different temporary jobs and got very good feedback from their clients. Infact, last year, Accountemps gave me a choice of three jobs in two days and I picked up the one which looked more promising.
Having looked at the results of 3 years, and the feedback from those who have interviewed me (HRDC, placement agencies etc.) telling me that I am one of those who shoud be able to get jobs before end of the week, I feel that I AM marketable and have got the ingredients of being successful - positive thinker, good communicator (both oral and written), associating with successful people (both professional and business), good knowledge and experience of my subject, etc. So the only thing which can be wrong - because I do not get calls from actual employers for interview, should be something to do with my (two dozen or over different styles to suit the job requirements) RESUMES.
So here I come to you all CD members - specially the ones who have been successful in getting jobs in their own field - whether in a week or a year - and seek your inputs or advice to \"repair\" / alter / re-engineer/ re-design my resume, and help me get some interviews atleast, where I can demonstrate to the prospective employer my strengths and convince him/her how I can be an asset to him/her.
Do not worry , I will not ask you to read my dozen resumes - just three versions - for junior positions, mid level and senior positions. However, based on my 3 years experience, I am no longer looking for junior positions, because the more I take up those ones, the less marketable I become for a position that I deserve - but I still apply for such positions with a hope to get interview call and learn from actual experience.
Any volunteers? Especilally guys like BL, GG, Jake3D, DP Jain, Viks, RShastry, and ofcourse Sunny_IT, Mishter India and the like, who have been extremely successful in last 6 months?

Hi Chandreshji,
I am not able to give you advise but my suggestion is that please concentrate ONLY in finding JOB. I know you very well and you have very friendly nature and concentrated on many things at a time.

Hi Kap,
Yes, you are right that I should concentrate only on job. However, the thing is that when I actually started looking for a job (December 2001), the job scenario had changed drastically since I had come to Canada (Aug 2000) and constant efforts of more than a year of searching for jobs did not result in anything. For the first time in my life I felt disheartened by the beginning of 2003 since I could not find even accounting clerk's jobs and finally when I had to accept a 18k/year job (which had a promise though to rise upto 40 k within a year). And that is when I started looking at various options and everyone thought that I was looking at too many things at one time.
However, my 9 months at Pioneer (which included a 7 month contract given to me after I had left the company to pursue some other business, but was recalled) has given me renewed confidence. So I am all set to go out there and get something worthwhile.
I tried sending an e-mail to you with my resume, but it seems to me that I cannot send any attachmentsin e-mail sent via this site. Give a reply to my mail and then I shall attach the resume to my mail.

Chandresh,
I can certainly have a look too. Please email me a copy.
I must confess though I'm an IT guy so I'm not sure how effectively I can make suggestions on an accounting resume, simply because I'm not familiar with the jargon. I can try though.
And oh yeah, congrats on the new house purchase!

Are you there?
Dear Chandresh,
Having read a lot of your posts on this forum, I have not doubt you are a very smart, capable, marketable and resoureful person and success for you is just round the corner.
I'd be glad to provide another pair of eyes to go over your resume.I'm an IT guy but my brother is an accounting geek and maybe I can run it by him as well.
Good Luck.
Chandresh ,
We have all been following and gaining from ur posts .
I recall u d mentioned that u were pink slipped upon blurting 2 ur CMA boss ur CA status . Why do I have this feeling that u r nearing the top of the pyramid for suited jobs matching ur profile . I mean wud any1 b ready 2 hire a CA having 15 years of International expereince for an Accountant Clerk s position ?
The positions matching ur profile may be very few , hence the delay . And then there is the luck factor also . I wud also like 2 c ur CV please.
Regards,
Manasvi .
