Just remembered - last year my family travelled from Canada to Delhi with breaks both in Malaysia and Singapore for a few days - they were not subject to the rule of 20 kgs between Singapore and India even though it was an Asian airlines.

Ditto . I travelleled Bahrain -Toranto- Delhi- Bahrain on KLM / Gulfair . They have an agreement amongst themselves . On all 03 journeys I was given 02 luggage which is otherwise not permitted on Delhi Bahrain sector .
Crenshaw I do not see any reaons why a carton stands disqualified as I have personally used them .Neither have I heard such case provided the l*b*h rule applies .

My reply is to tickets sold India - Canada
Prices on tickets are based on complex revenue management which comprises of various factors such as distance, fare fules, sesonality etc.
Fare rules are linked to IATA Recommendation.
Each Airline treats IATA rules for recomended practices, however are not liable to use. Baggage Allowances are one of the fare rules.
For Travel Ex Canada , I cannot dispute with you as not aware.
Travel Ex India it is applicable.
Travel ex Middle East, It is also applicable.
Now Manasvi, you purchased a ticket which is called a circle fare i.e. carrier who provides you maxium points adds interline agreements to its fare and sell same ( ex like a promotion ) . Airlines float these special fares to remain competitive and get additional customers and captilize from Immigrant community which is a big traffic flow.
How these circle fares work
KLM/LH will have fare levels Bahrain-Canada-Bahrain which comprises of flight legs/levels Bahrain-Amsterdam/Amstedam-Toronto/Toronto-Amsterdam/Amsterdam-Bahrain.
Also Airlines amongst themselves have interline agreements where these levels are lower/subsidized ex GF will offer Bahrain-Bombay at USD 70 which can be added to KLM Ticket. These are called interline fares or airlines used term called SPA.
Now the airlines combine and offer these fares on each other documents.
For sales purposes, they may overrule IATA recommendations which could include baggage allowances as it may not be logical for a person to buy ticket Bahrain-Canada-India-Bahrain or Canada-Malaysia-India-Canada. One has to remember , if they did not make exceptions, then they cannot promote packages, layovers etc which are actually sales tool.
Please note this is not always the case that you will get 2 pieces all the way and hence best check with airlines/travel agent, before you travel and fare rules of the ticket you are buying. Also please check thinks like minimum stay on the tickets, Date Change Penalties, refund restrictions.
Earnings from Excess baggage are big revenues for the airlines and each station has targets to achieve. Hence dont get into trouble and plan well
Hope Clear.
