Peacock, welcome to Canada
Are yo sure its only 32 Kgs ??
I thought, a passenger flying to North America was allowed to carry 64 Kgs. Such a facility is not there when flying to INdia. The max allowed weight in that case is only 20Kgs ( a painful fact I learnt at Heathrow airport)

OK rule goes like this
1. To Europe - You are allowed 20KG only in Economy and 30Kg in Business Class
2. USA/Canada - You are allowed 2pieces of baggage of dimensions i thing 158 cms ( l x b x h ) and each peice not more than 32KG. Therefore one person is allowed total 64Kg.
Any extra baggage or extra dimensions or extra weight on same baggage qualifies for excess baggage charge by the respective airlines
Note
If you journey breaks in Europe and you decide to take a layover then from India to Europe Airlines will allow 20KG and then Europe to US 2 Pieces of baggage.
Also please note that Big Travel Agents in India etc sell volume sales on Airlines and hence can at times get you excess baggage waivers/free upgrades from the airlines. It all depends on how much you push with the travel agent and how good is your networking.
Also keep good networking at the airport as you will travel every year. Either with Civil Aviation Guys or with Airline Managers " Just say the magic word - You guys are excellent" and see the results .
See Alitalia Experience counts + networking always helps......

B+ is not just a blood group!
Heard about a supposed case recently at Bombay where an airline refused to check in cartons as checked baggage for a passenger traveling to Canada - insisted that he have either suitcases or a bag of some sort.
Has anyone heard of something similar? I've never tried to have cartons checked in myself (although I have had unaccompanied baggage sent across to Canada in cartons), - there was another user on this thread who had been planning to do that.
