I was happy to see this discussion Board as it has all the people having the same problem trying to help each other.
I am also in the same state as most of you guys. I have finished 4 years of univ and I am in the first year of work permit and not sure what to do next.

I have one suggestion for some of you..you can apply for the 2 year post grad work permit if you graduate and study from a place out side MTV Area(Motreal/Toronto/Vancouver).this will give you more time to apply for PR.

But if u have already started working in MTV in the first year ..this will not apply to you..which is unfortunately my case.

I was also wondering how some of you applied for PR after you finished school...as I contacted some lawyers and they said to wait for 6 months after you get work permit which gives you points to be able to apply..Is there any other way??

Hey Deepika ...!!!
First of all Welcome To Canadian Desi :)
We guys are in same situation, So lets share our ideas and knowledge...
I presume that you do not have one year minimum work experience requirement that is why lawers told you to wait for 6 months, If that is not the case, Please don't follow up with lawyers..
Do reply ..!!
Cheers..!!

Hi All,

Thanks for the welcome..As jigz pointed out I don't have one year work experience ..but in the 4 years of undergraduate studies I did part time job for 3 years..taking summer off..to visit India.

In one of the previous replies Neha has mentioned that 6 months of part time work== 1year Full time work.
But when I spoke to few lawyers in Scarborough..they said that the work has to be continuous...to apply for PR?

Also has anyone tried for the 2 year post grad work permit that I mentioned in my previous message.
Deepika

Noooo ...!!
6 months part time work will be only 3 months full time work.
I think you got it clearly but only typed mistakenly :)
Calculate total hours of your work , 40 hours required to complete 1 week full time work.

Another one of the magical wonders of Canada's liberal policies..
You come disease ridden, with no education, violent past and be a total drag on economy and health system.. and you are welcome as refugees with unlimited right to work and almost guaranteed welfare benefits..
You come as hard-working, highly educated graduate.. GET A JOB on your own and just wanna be left to persue life-liberty et all.. and you are required to jump thro' 100 hoop and dance to the discordent tunes..!! Wah Canada!! Meanwhile mismatched or unmatched \"Skilled\" workers pour in!!
I feel bad for you guyz.. but hang in there.. you are the best argument for immigration..
and hey.. who else is gonna pay the taxes to pay for all these other bums we are brings in!!:p

I agree with what zCool says. But, hey, can we all start some organization to stop this wasteful expenditure on refugees and starving of law abiding, tax paying immigrants?

How about proposing measures to relocate the refugees to a safe third world country and pay them the expenses to live there? That should be cheaper than paying them here.

Guys!
You are making a mistake in your statements. Know that Canada also has to take in refugees if they need to take in immigrants. More the immigrants needed , the Govt. has to take in more refugees. This is in line with the UN guidelines. So you can say that taking in refugees is a necessary evil.
(OTOH wonder what Australia does. I am sure that its refugee intake policy is very very less)
Thanks for going through my post.
