I am posting here a problem that I do not currently have but I think a lot of international students have this problem. Here goes...
Even if we can find employment for a year after graduation most employers are not willing to extend the work permits as it would require HRDC approval. We cannot get PR status within a year of graduation either as just to apply we need a one year work experience.
Most of my friends on graduate work permit are planning to go to school again after their one year graduate work permit expires because they do not want to go out of status in Canada or go back home as it takes longer in India to process the PR application.
Is there a way around this situation?
Has anyone found a solution to this?

HI neha!!!!
Your thought are true.... i had Graduate work permit for one yr which expires in this month. i already applied for PR at buffalo and got my medicals last month from RPC buffalo but i dont think that i will get all other documents before this month as they are having a lot delay in their processing of files. As my work permit gona expire, i need to have some status in canada atleast for waiting of my PR so, i already applied for student visa.
But here is the problem.....Its not that easy to Change the status of worker to student again as they need lots of documents from ur Last employer......ITs been 3 months now that i applied for change of conditions and now they reply me from the call center that my file has been transfer to local office of scarborough. When i inquire at scarborough they replies that local office has delay of 17 weeks means alomost 4 months............
so no solution rather then wait and watch............
Anyways guys..........best Of luck to all...........

HI neha and sandip
Hope you can give me some tips.
i m sailing in the same boat.
i m having grad work permit which is valid till aug 2005.
already applied for my PR through buffalo.
wht is the time period? any idea?
also wht if i dont hear abt my PR till my grad work permit expires?
wht is the solution or way out.
thanx
Hi neha, sandip and all ....!!
I also have same confusion like you all guys..
Right now I am holding Post Grad Work permit and it expires in July '05.
I haven't applied for PR yet as I need the minimum 1 yr work experience required..
Same as others, I was thinking to extend visa as a student ( no other choice you have if you want to stay in Canada )
I believe it will take atleast 1.5 years to get file processed after once I apply for PR.
So I need to extend student visa for 2 years more ..
Any comments will be accepted
