I thought many people might find this interesting, as there is considerble discussion about French/English rivalry on CD. the following may not be true: it could well be an urban legend, but if YOU LOOK CLOSELY at the Canadian flag (on the left and right edges), you can see a Frenchman and an Englishman facing each other and arguing!

The designer of the Canadian flag (so they say) put this image into the flag to symbolize what he knew Canada would become: Endless nagging and fighting, like husband and wife, over anything and everything by the French and English!

Look closely at the Maple Leaf Flag.... can you see it????

The differences between the french and english canadians pale in comparision with the differences of the various peoples of India. I think the french and the english have more in common in terms of history and culture (maybe even language) than ...lets say an average person from Punjab and an average person from Kerala. In that context, I as a desi, have always found the 'cultural divide' of the French and English obviously superficial :).

You are so right.
Historically, there *were* no English people.
The people of the-then England were all of French origin.
The entire English nobility spoke French, dressed French and ate French pudding :o

It was only after the 12th century or so that there started being two different cultures - the English and the French - and thus started all the quibbling and the rivalry.
