My checked bag was misplaced by Al-Italia when I travelled to Mumbai last month. Although it was returned to me at my resi 2 days later the bag was damaged and goods missing. Their staaf in Mumbai did not even repair my bag aster promising.
I had losts of problems because of this. I want a compensation from them. Is there any way ( lawyer e.t.c.) I can put a claim.

Your suggestions welcome.

P.S.
A piece of advise: Never travel by AA

Call the Airlines office or the agent where you booked your tickets and ask them where to file a claim.

Should not be much problem ..

Hi,

It is sad to learn of the unfortunate experience you had on Alitalia.

When the baggage was delivered to you, did you notice any damage then? If yes, did you call the airline immediately and advise them of the damage? If yes, you may be able to make a claim. If no, it would entirely depend upon the airline's local office to make the decision on how they would handle the claim. It is not uncommon for the airlines to accept your claim as a goodwill gesture. The airlines however no longer entertain claims on damaged or missing wheels, broken handles, minor nicks & scratches, seam bursts and zipper malfunction. Also, if the bag already shows signs of excessive use, they may not even cover the damage. In other words, only major cuts or cracks in the suitcases or external spoilage are the only damages covered by the airlines.

Now to the delayed delivery. You would be entitled to claim a per-diem allowance if all (not part) of your baggage was missing. That too if your baggage was not missing at a port of your normal place of residence. You may be asked to submit receipts of your expenses for the days you were missing the baggage. Purchase of clothing during the days you were missing the bags would be re-imbursed within the limit of the allowance to the 50% of their purchase price.

Alternatively, you can also sue the airline for damages, but your lawyer will be able to guide you better on that. If you read the contract on the flight ticket, you would certainly not find much use pursuing that route.

My suggestion to you would be to write of your "disgusting' experience to the airline's local office with a copy to their head office and wait for their response. My gut feel (and experience) is that you will get some compensation.

Good Luck!
