Hi
As a newly landed immigrant, I am trying to land up with a call center job for basic survival. Regarding this, I have a few queries:
1) Does all CC jobs involve selling products & services over the phone as their core business function?
2) Is it very difficult to meet the sales targets, and if not met within a particular period, does that lead to termination of job?
3) Are most of the CC's outbound call centers? How to land up a job in a CC where only the inbound calls are entertained, for e.g. credit cards, cell phones, etc. companies?
4) I have enough experience in interacting with US based clients over the VOIP phone from India. Do you think this will enable me to get a job in a CC over here, or should I fudge my resume to suit a CC interview?
5) Which agencies or firms to contact for data entry/validation/mapping assignments (it can be either from home or onsite)?
Detailed feedback would be highly appreciated.
Thanx

As a newly landed immigrant, I am trying to land up with a call center job for basic survival. Regarding this, I have a few queries:
--- Good Step. I think, this gives an exposure to customer service, and improves communication skills in a very effective way.
1) Does all CC jobs involve selling products & services over the phone as their core business function?
--- CC can have following components:
1. Inbound CC: e.g. Billing inquiry, credit card inquiry etc
2. Outbound CC: Information about new products to existing customers, and then selling of those. Also Cold calling for selling different products
3. Tech Support: Customer care experience works positively to transition there sometimes.
2) Is it very difficult to meet the sales targets, and if not met within a particular period, does that lead to termination of job?
--- Depends on your sales target if any. Some CCs offer incentives per sale to motivate. I havent seen any case of termination due to non-sales. Due to bad behaviour or abusive (swearing etc) remarks, yes, one is inviting the termination.
3) Are most of the CC's outbound call centers? How to land up a job in a CC where only the inbound calls are entertained, for e.g. credit cards, cell phones, etc. companies?
--- Not necessarily. Depends on what CC you get into. Mostly, I have come across people in Inbound CCs with previous Outbound C experience. So I guess, Inbound relies on one's outbound exp.
4) I have enough experience in interacting with US based clients over the VOIP phone from India. Do you think this will enable me to get a job in a CC over here, or should I fudge my resume to suit a CC interview?
--- Highlight these as your skills so that they can be utilized as Customer service skills. that s all. The fudging is upto you, lot of people do anything to get a job!
5) Which agencies or firms to contact for data entry/validation/mapping assignments (it can be either from home or onsite)?
--- 1. Officeteam.ca, 2. People Bank...
Hi ThinkingOne,
Thanks for the detailed reply.
I was just wondering that why are CC's always on a hiring spree? Do they hire and then fire people if they donot meet their standards, or are they genuinely in need of people?
Or, do people leave by themselves after a few months in a CC, and if yes, why?
Thanks Again
