I will land in Canada as an Immigrant around end of July.
I am IT professional with 10+ years of PM and BI/DW total experience, and now started applying jobs from USA for Canada.
What I observed that skillsets and job profiles are matching. Very few recruiters showed interest and talked to me, and applied my resume to some places.
But I have not received any call or interview yet. Most of the people, recruiters said unless you land i.e. your status gets changed to 'Landed Immigrant', you get PR & SIN Card etc, they will not ask for interview.
a) I would like to know how True this statement is. Can anyone tell me what is the true story ?
b) Also, I am ready to do any odd job immediately I land. How difficult or easy is to get odd job ? I can do teaching, factory, recruiting etc. job.
Your reply will really help !!
Thanks,
Alok Sarma

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
My six years of H1 will expire soon in Nov' 2005. Somehow I have to stay outside Canada for 1 year to come back to USA.
PM Means Project Manager. I have PMP certification.
Most people in Canada what I understood do some part time odd job for survival till they get a job.
Please comment.

Manjeet,
Mercury's advise is very good and your's too.
I am hopeful to get a job as you said. Though I just started applying for Canada, but I am getting lots of response from USA, and I am rejecting those. I cannot stay in USA as my H1 will expire for 6 yrs terms. I have to stay outside USA for 1 yr. My Visa is expiring in Nov' 2005. Some people are telling me to try in USA with PERM. People are getting labor done real quick. I am thinking that could be slight risk for me.
Similar to Mercury's suggestion, I already have planned to get PR, SIN card etc. and go to in India or other country for a while, and then come back to USA preferably or Canada.
I have some friends in Canada but not very close.
Your reply started my thinking. Probably I will contact them then to use their address. Good tips though !
Thanks,
Alok
Alok,
I am in the same situation and sometime short of 6 yr mark as well, i did the same by applying for PR and SIN Card and came back, I am looking for Jobs through US now
I heard through PERM there are lot of rejections happening but its just something i heard cant confirm

One small tip.
When I landed here the first time I took a local cell phone (international plan). 416 code, i.e. toronto and area.
That gave the recruiters the impression that I was in toronto.
Once they called , i would just tell then where I was at the time and see if they were still interested. A few were interested enough to give me a few days time to make my way to toronto for an interview.
Also my experience is about 5 years old, things must have changed since then.
