Although it is mentioned in one of the posts that, Debit cards are not allowed by the immigration authorites as proof of funds, but in case a bank like SBI who issues a debit card loaded with US dollars equivalent to 15400 CAD and also writes it accordingly on the passport, then will that be not acceptable?

I do not know about Debt Cards. i.e allowed or not.
Why cant you bring US $ Travellers Cheque as it is accepted at par .
it is accepted by immigration.

With Debt card there is a limit for everyday withdrawal and you may have to pay 3$ for every withdrawal. You cannot get cash from teller.

Thanks Monk.

I have finally decided to take a draft from SBI in US dollars, but debit card would have been very convenient provided charges for every transaction are not levied at 3 USD, which I will find and let everybody know about it.

Dear Pysavala,

I gather you are from Mumbai. I lived in Mumbai between 1997 -2001. I lived in Borivali(West) at Gorai. I worked at Andheri(East) and later at Santacruz(East).

It is 20 months since I migrated to Canada, and I deeply regret my decision. I'm just waiting to get my Passport and I'll move out of this wretched place. Many times people think that we who are here are enjoying and do not want others to come here. It is not so. When I look back my life in Mumbai was one of the times I've ever had.

Do not sell any valuables, properties you have there. Do not resign your job before coming here. Try to get an extended leave without pay so that you could have the option of going back. I did not have the same option.

Everybody have their priorities for coming here. Yours might be different. Hence I cannot judge it or comment on it. One thing I could gaurantee is that you we are much better off in Mumbai than here.

You'll realize that a year down the road and You would definitely remember me and this post.

Good Luck

Passport? Don't you have one? Or are you waiting for Canadian Citizenship? And still you call this place what you have said above?
Surprise Surprise

Thanks Shankaracharyaji for your views. I have gone thru canadian desi quite thoroughly and have come to the conclusion that, I will have to be ready for the long haul and I have no choice at this moment, as I have put on stake almost everything. By the way I too am from Bombay, Ghatkopar. My perception after reading and listening to most of the views is 50% chances of being stable if not sucessful. Needless to say, luck will have to play a bigger role.
