Thanks Monk.

I have finally decided to take a draft from SBI in US dollars, but debit card would have been very convenient provided charges for every transaction are not levied at 3 USD, which I will find and let everybody know about it.

My sincere suggestion to you would be to bring TCs as advised by YoursTruly, rather than bank draft....and in US$ NOT AT ALL (too much of currency conversion exps)......you don't pay any commission fees when you encash TCs in the same bank where you open your accts....moreover bank draft can take few days to clear whereas TCs gives you immed credit....I can understand the reason for bank draft could be lower cost of forex...but believe me....when you encash your draft you'll end up paying very high fees.....I know this as I work in a bank....

the options are yours.....anyways...all the best to you...do let me know if you have any other Q.

take care

I was wondering if one can open an A/c in ICICI Bank Canada (form India, I know this is possible)
Deposit the required money (to be shown to Immigration officials)
And get a Bank Statement from ICICI (am not sure of this part, if Immigration officials will accept this as proof of funds)

Some people has a habbit of giving unasked lectures. Some of the replies here are directionless, meaningless. If anyone has a good property in bombay with a high paid job , then why the hell did he come here? is the question he should ask himself, and stop giving lectures to others. Whoever takes decision of migrating has a mind of his own, he knows what is good or bad for him.
So guys please stick to the point and stop discouraging others.

yes. it can be done. Immigration authorities do accept the letter from ICICI. But remember ICICI does not have many branches in Toronto. So everytime you need money or transact you need to visit downtown, Brampton or Scarborough. Or pay $1.5 or $2.00 for cash withdrawal from other ABM's.

Secondly, ICICI Takes long to activate and link your account to other banks. My advise would be - get a draft or TC's, open an account with CIBC, Scotia or any Canadian bank for that matter and deposit the money. It is faster and hassle free. And ICICi treats you, rather one gets the feeling, that the money in the bank is not yours and ICICI is doing you a big favour by opening your account.

As far as I can read from the earlier post of Iceburg, he/she clearly did mention that,

"But remember ICICI does not have many branches in Toronto. So everytime you need money or transact you need to visit downtown, Brampton or Scarborough".

I was wondering as to what would constitue incorrect info vis-a-vis info provided by canada_calling :( . If I am missing some points, please enlighten me :)

I myself work with one of the largest banks in Canada yet I did open accts with ICICI Bank simply coz of initial promotion + Indian Bank + better int rate. But cust service SUCKS big time. And as an Indian I feel sad abt the same. No offense, but I know few more families having bad exp with ICICI. I personally have left messages for Personal Bankers like 3-4 times for some querries and nobody bothers to reply. Total unprofessionalism. We as Personal Bankers are supposed to and we do return calls for all our customers within 2 business hours....NO MATTER WHAT !!!!!!

I can give more personal examples abt ICICI Bank. But yet I would still encourage all to open acct there and earn more int together with a regular bank acct with either of the major Canadian Bank for CONVENIENCE + CUST SVC + PROFESSIONALISM + MORE PRODUCTS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS etc....
