I received final response to my citizenship application for myself and my family filled in October 2002. We have received letter to appear before judge with documents and he will decide on our application based on our information in our application and our knowledge regarding Canada. Please confirm wheatear we will have to appear for test also on the same day and what preparations are needed for interview.

im going to take a stab at this...
the normal process for straightforward cases is, it is processed, applicants are asked to write a test, and then take an oath... if there are any problems (as in the application does not seem to be straightforward) or there are other questions, or if an applicant fails the test, thats when it goes to a citizenship judge...
generally if a judge wants to see you, its to clarify number of days as a pr before you applied for citizenship, or if there are other concerns...
the judge will probably go over your application to verify the details you have put on there, and ask you about things that may be on the test, but it is unlikely they will ask you to write a test.. citizenship judges have the authority to decide applications without a test provided they have passed security screening...
Thanks for answer. In our case the stay was outside Canada for most of time but since I was with Canadian company , we are eligible to get Citizenship.

actually thats a very common misconception... working for a canadian company outside canada is only good for maintaining pr status... it does not count towards days required for citizenship...
UNLESS a citizenship judge decides (and a citizenship officer agrees) that an exception may be applied for the residency requirement... which explains why the judge wants to see you...
that, plus even if the judge ok's your application, cic may withhold the grant of citizenship and appeal the judge's decision (although that rarely happens)...
complete residence policy can be found here...

Yes it is indeed puzzling that people still seem to be unclear about this. Barring any unusual ascent given by a Citizenship judge, your time outside Canada DOES NOT count for citizenship. It does not matter whether you are working for a Canadian company or married to a Canadian citizen. Your time outside Canada could only count towards PR if you fall into those categories for example.
yellowknife, there is an exception residency requirement for citizenship for being outside canada while a pr and accompanying a spouse who is a canadian citizen IF the spouse is working with the public service of canada or for a province or for the canadian armed forces, and is positioned overseas...
an example would be if the canadian citizen spouse was in the foreigh service and was required to work at a canadian embassy, trade mission or consulate overseas.. in that case there would be an exemption to the residency requirement for citizenship...
