Judging by this thread , it appears to me that you are acting under pressure & may likely take a decision you regret later . I would suggest consider the following :

a. Send a written registered postal request to the CIC to separate both the applications .... no reasons may be necessary for this .

b. Await the results - with in 1-2 months , picture should be clear . You may think that your wife may fail but who knows what CIC thinks . As it is - citizenship is a lenient process - they help you become a citizen .

c. Its always better that both the spouses ( the whole family ) should retain the same citizenship ... this can help in various ways .. while visiting other places - for job or other wise .. You can both apply for the OCI later and even re apply for Indian citizenship later if you so decide .

I am hopeful that this waiting period of 1 - 2 months will provide you with enough time to wear off the current pressure and decide pragmatically .

To answer your q - I would suppose 'Yes' - even till the oath , you have the discretion of backing out on your citizenship application ..Its always a personal decision , nobody can force you to it !!

Thanks a lot Fido !

You are right, the pressure was immense for the last two days.
As suggested by you and others, I have decided to wait for the results ( CIC officer told us that it will take 8-10 weeks ).

Once the results are out, then we will take a decision to separate the application or withdrawing of the citizenship application by my wife.

Will keep you guys posted with results and my case.
All of you are awesome, and I truly appreciate the advice received from the forum members.

Best Regards..

Hi I am in a similar position and I have a question- I also opened a new thread but can please any one help>

I applied citizenship as family. My wife received RQ and we sent the required proofs. No action for the last three months. I am right now outside Canada. I like to separate the application and asked the call center. They asked to send a letter to immigration office stating a reason why we want to separate the application. What could be the ideal reason. My actual reason is the delay in processing of my wife application delays mine. Is it a valid reason?

Thanks for any suggestion

Sundar

Yes - a RQ or an anticipated delay in a partner's processing is a good reason for the other person to request separate processing .

A friend underwent a similar situation recently & was advised by the CIC officials @ the Test to request separation of applications .

A registerd postal request is better .

Good News !!

Look I told you -- your wife may think that she has failed but that may not be what CIC thinks ...

All the best !!
