It is much smoother to drive a cargo van.
In your case, I think your best bet may be to rent a cargo van for 1 day from one of the rental agencies like Enterprise, Avis, Discount, etc.
Then ask a friend to come help you with loading/unloading the stuff.
A one day rental shouldn't cost more than $60.
I had rented a cargo van last year from Enterprise and I think it cost $60 a day, incl. taxes.
A GMC cargo van is enough to move a 1 bdr. 1 kitchen at one trip.
