Hello All,

Has anyone here bought a car from the Police Auction or Dealers Auction?

I have heard that the cars there are much cheaper as compared to the private sale or the normal used dealers.

Please let me know if anyone you guys had a bad experience with these auctions.

I also heard from a friend that a friend of his has brought a car for about $ 1500 in a polic auction and that it was a good bargain. Like I said , heard of but never seen a person who actually bought one. Also heard of REPODEPOT where repossessed cars are on sale as is . If you know a good mechanic, take him to the place and can select a reasonably good vehicle . There is a element of risk involved in purchasing of all used vehicles. But we have to take some risk as all of us cannot afford new cars

The website looks good but the pricing is same as with any dealers. Some cars that are cheaper have body damage and scratches.

I am planning to go to a dealers auction some where in Mississauga this Thursday. I will let you guys know of my experience.

Any more Desis who have already been to these kind of Dealer auctions?? Please share you experience.

Sounds interesting. But in a dealers auction you require a dealers licence to bid on a car.

Thats correct. You need to know a dealer who can bid on your behalf. Dealers would charge you about $150-200 only if you buy the car. I know atleast 3 people who have bought their cars from dealer auction and are really happy with it. However they all say that its risky. Coz you dont get a chance to drive the car till you buy it.

Most of the dealers buy their cars from these kind of auctions. I guess if you want cheap stuff you gotta take risk. Will see this thursday by myself and let you guys know.

Actually, I found a good private deal and hence did not go to the auction. I got a 96 Honda Accord 19k kms for $5k. I guess you cannot find a better deal in an auction.

A friend of mine have been there and he told me that a dealer's aucation is all about luck. If you are lucky, you can find a good deal.
