Me and my wife are both Canadian citizens. We are planning to PERMANENTLY relocate to India in the next few months. We want to adopt a child AFTER we relocate. The questions that we have are

1. What would the citizenship of the adopted child be? Indian or Canadian? Will we have any hassles in getting travel documents for the child?
2. Will it be better to adopt , bring the child to Canada and then relocate?

when you have a child and he is born in a country othere than your country. you have a choice either to take citizen ship of both countries. those rules go for an adopted child too. when you adopt , go to the canadian embassy and apply for his/her pastport. or rather when you start the process make sure you visit the embassy and talk to them they will guide you properly.

I don't think that is the case. I think you have to APPLY for the kid to become a citizen. Follow this link

1. A child adopted outside Canada has to be sponsored first to become a landed immigrant [PR].

Only then can you apply on behalf of the child to become a citizen. No 3-year residency required.

2. Adopting and waiting for child's immigration to Canada can take several years. I say, adopt, sponsor and then relocate to live with child. It'll increase your chance of successfully sponsoring since it shows your dedication and genuine intent to live with your adopted child.

If you're really confused, don't hesiate to pay for good legl advice on this. Don't take short cuts because it is not a matter of simply filling some forms.

Thanks Mr. Masood. "Adopt , sponsor, relocate" seems like the best approach.
