Hello & Merry Christmas!
I am a Canadian Permanent Resident card holder (along with my wife). I am now returning with my wife and daughter of 2 years to Canada. Our child was born outside Canada, and she does not have Canadian P.R.
My concern is - How can I bring my child with us when we travel to Canada?
Should I apply for a temporary Resident visa for my daughter, keeping her as the principal applicant? Do I need to show proof of funds?
Or should I be applying for a travel document?
Since I am not inside Canada now, I assume that the family class immigration application would not apply.
Appreciate your advice...
Sunil
Hello,
Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year.
First and foremost, get the birth certificate for the child.
Next get a Passport for that child.
Inform the CHC in India about the new arrival, or change of status with details and cetrificates. Copies will do. You will have to provide as much information as you can, all in one shot, which will link you both and the child properly.{No mis-spelt certificates}
This new arrival is your dependant. You are responsible for your daughter.
Ask for an application for the child, with complete requirements.
You may have to complete a Health Check as per their instructions. Some times they even accept all of this completeed, by your Family Physician. Ask your Doctor, he might have done this for a few others.
I am sure you would have completed all of the Vaccinations and the QUAD and boosters by now. Get all of these in the certificate form, which will help you here in Canada, when asked for. There are booklets available with the Family Physicians, which they fill and attest. They even have room for the certificate number and date of manufacture of the medications used by the Doctor in them.
After the completion of the Health formalities and successfully getting through, they will call for the Passport for the stamping. {I don't think it even asks for a FEE}. Please check with them.
All of this you can do with one letter. Do as they tell you to do in their response. All of this will take some time. So start as soon as you can and do it right the first time.
Please keep in mind that you need 730 days stay here in Canada out of Five years.
Good Luck.
Freddie.
Hi Sunil,
Just wanted to add few more things.
I know Freddie already wrote in details
Considering you are in India, so have two options
First apply for Visit visa for child & then after coming here apply
for immigration
Problem are :
getting Visit Visa in India for child as u & wife are in India
Also consider Medical test hassel, sending passport in India when Immigration is ready for child
Then comes exit from Canada
Another option is complete immigration process for Child in India. But it may take anything between 6-12 months as Medical, Visa stamping etc is involved
So depends upon how much time you have.
If you need further info, let me know
