My child was born March 26th in the US. I became a Canadian Citizen on March 29th. I live in Canada.
Contrary to what I had assumed earlier, my child is NOT a Canadian citizen based on my Cdn citizenship, because I became a Cdn AFTER the child was born.
Am I correct in stating the above?
Am I to sponsor the child for PR and then subsequently apply for the child's citizenship?
Please comment. Thank you.

Just a comment and it is no way related to your query.
Wow, what a lucky child gets 3 passports in one shot!.
Will be a US citizen as it born there, will be a Canadian Citizen due to your PR/Citizenship here and an OCI(I'm assuming that you are from India and because of that the child will be entitled for the OCI).
The best way is for the kid is for education till undergraduate level in India, health care in Canada and job/career in USA.
Many Happy Wishes for the New Born Child and may the Child bring in lots of happiness to your family!

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Dimple,
your child is an American citizen.
Your child can enter Canada with her American citizenship/ passport. Apply for her PR and get it. cross the border with the child and enter back in. This child now becomes Canadian PR. Until she becomes a Canadian PR she is not entitled to claim for child tax benefit/ Ohip.
(This is what happened to a friends of mine. Though he is Desi, he does not want to apply for OCI or PIO card. That is his personal choice).

Mainnote : Congratulations on the birth of the child.

Dimple,
As far as i know :
(Edited due to it being wrong)
If a person is a refugee/ Illegal/ PR of Canada and the child is born in Canada , then the child is a Canadian Citizen by birth ( Eg. My daughter but i was PR then and not a refugee or a illegal)
Assuming that you live in Detroit-Windsor, You should have used a Windsor hospital if you wanted Canadian Citizenship.
Since delivery in Canadian Hospitals is free and maybe you had US health coverage, it was your choice to have the child at the other side of the Canadian border.
Anyway, your choice involves just Paper work , money and Time.
All the best for your child to recive the Great Icey North Citizenship. I would have prefered American Citizenship for my child - Anyways that is just a personal Choice.
See the Canadian Citizenship act through a Lawyer's website : http://www.americanlaw.com/cdncitabrd.html
