Hello.. I had put this message under Jobs category and came to know that it should go here.. have a couple of questions -
1. I have submitted my passport and photos to the Los Angeles consulate 2 weeks back and should be getting it back this month.. guess I have time till May 2004 (1 yr from date of medical) to claim my PR after which it will be void.. pls confirm.
2. I assume to get my PR will have to go to the Niagara border (ideal for me) where they will give it to me when I show them my passport with the stamping from LA consulate.. pls confirm.
3. Would the PR that I get on the border be permanent or temporary?.. if temp then how long for permanent PR?
4. Once I get PR on border can I return to US immediately? or have to enter Canada and stay for sometime before coming back? if so how much min time/days to stay? do I need to apply for SIN, bank act, OHIP etc during that time (although I will be coming back to US)?
5. When I am back in US do I then need to worry abt taking care of anything back in Canada like taxes etc?
6. Can I work on H1 in US even after becoming Canadian citizen or only option is TN visa?
Can someone pls revert back with the answers.. thanks a lot in advance.
AG.
1. correct
2 & 3. your PR papers come to your address in the US. You will then enter Canada anywhere you like to get your landing formalities and confirmation of landing etc.
4. you can return to usa as soon as you've completed formalities ... a day or a few days. if you are serious about preserving your Canadian PR, apply for all those you mentioned ...
5. you are supposed to file taxes. (filing does not mean paying)
6. Please ask an American Immigration attorney

thanks Massood.. but to apply for the 3 things I mentioned I suppose have to show a Canadian residence.. right? if so then I stay with someone and show that address? (bcoz I won't get a seperate apt on rent just for a few days).. or can I mention hotel/motel addr? pls advise.
you can use a friend's address. If you have no friend, please see http://www.canadaentry.com" rel="nofollow">LINK - It's our settlement service provider and they have apartments you can rent on a daily basis. They will also forward you your PR card & other cards if you are using the their address.
We use them for all our clients.
