Hello Everybody..
We have just finished our medicals and I have few months in my hand..
Let me tell you something about my background.
I have done M.C.M (Master of Computer Management..Pune Univ).
I have around 2 years of software development exp. I am 37 yrs old.
Current Status : Housewife with one toddler to take care of.
I also have a B.Ed. degree and have teaching experience of 3 years.
Now I want to restart my career once I land in canada.
I would have loved to teach in schools but I learnt from this site that I will have to requalify to do this.
Now If I want to do something in IT I will have to do some course before starting again since it's a gap of 3 years since the last job..
How should I start again??
I don't want to be in mainstream software developement now..
If I do MCSE b'fore coming in Canada..how much would it help..
Are there any courses available for Tech.writing, Software Testing etc..
How costly are they?
Can anybody guide me on this..

So many IT experts on the forum and nobody can advice
that's coz.. nobody cares..
it's pretty simple.. there aren't many jobs.. period..
Ones that are there.. go to ppl with US experience, very smart or very lucky ones.. all other regardless of your degree/field/experience.. are useless. get ready for long haul as minimum wage worker..
Why do ppl fall for this crappy economy again and again.. I dunno..

I disagree that people dont care. Sounds like you've had some bad experiences here. Sorry to hear this.
There are many posts/threads on the IT market in various parts of the country. Most employers who look for Canadian experience may not consider "US" experience either (depends again on the person). Softskills are big - attitude etc.
The IT market does seem very competitive now because there are many people with technical skills that are competing for the jobs.
Parag63: I am not in IT, I am an employment counsellor. However I can tell you that if you have the resources, you may be better off waiting until you land in Canada before taking MCSE or any other technical courses. You can take courses in Technical writing, Software testing etc, however the tuition fees vary depending on if you go to a private college or public school and each school sets its own fees, though Private schools are generally more expensive than public schools (and not necessarily better) Do your research once you arrive.
I also disagree you will be a 'minimum wage worker' for the long haul. Each person's situation is different and what I do recommend is make sure you have all your information about your masters program including what courses you have taken..and transcripts etc . Have it evaluated as soon as possible.

Along with information that you read in this site, why don't you also verify official information as to what is required to become a teacher in Canada. There always seems to be sporadic news articles that report shortage of primary education teachers. If you love teaching, why not pursue it and see how much it is gonna cost you in terms of time and money to certify/requalify?
I see that as more valuable than trying to enter a presumably over saturated IT job market.

I am not in trouble myself.. and I haven't had many experiences good or bad abt canadian market meself.. got a job and been stuck to it like stamp on old postcard since then.. but I see the malaise all over.. and yes some ppl are getting good.. but there are always successful ppl everywhere.. there are rich ppl even in Aids Stricken Botswana and dirt poor etheopia.. you have to look at the state of median average. Since 1997 to 2001 only 35 % of the new immigrants to Canadians found jobs in their own profession and average wait for those 35% was 18 months! these are the statistics by Austro-canadian joint study done in 2002! now since 2001 situation has gone down dramatically.. No point in throwing figures.. I submit 1 single figure.. 5% -- 5% of new immigrants to Canada getting jobs in their own field in the 180 days period .. This was study done by new canadian studies in toronto.. Crime, unemployment, standard of living and lowered or stagnant wages.. all are effect of economy stuck in a rut.. people who are coming here don't know the truth.. your chances of striking it rich are much higher in average Indian town or city than here in Canada.. if you are fleeing to avoid corrupt social systems or reservation or islamic terrorism in India .. those are coming near your canadian town soon too.. but in that case at least it makes some sense to try Canada.. but purely economic migration.. No longer makes sense.. you are much better off trying UK, OZ, NZ or UAE or of-course 6 yrs strech in good ol' US of A..
